Apple's OS X is First OS to be Hacked at This Year's Pwn2Own

The conception that Apple, Inc. computers running OS X are magically more secure than Windows computers was dealt another setback this week.  Using a flaw in Apple's pre-installed first-party Safari browser, it took French security pro Chaouki Bekrar merely 5 seconds to hijack the unwitting MacBook at the CanSecWest Conference's pwn2own contest in Vancouver, British Columbia.

And every year it just shows that this means nothing. On your own personal experience which users have more issues with being hacked, viruses, malware, and etc..?

btw: I am an avid PC user and have gone years without getting viruses and need very little PC security but I know the reality of most PC users.

"We dont have to worry because such a small percent of users use a Mac, so hackers dont really target us. Macs dont get viruses or have errors. You dont have to replace them for 15 years."

I don't want to be one of those in the small minority who do get hacked though

Been knew this. It doesn't matter though since mac's still hold no presence. When you write malicious code, who you're gonna target..the OS that has 10% market share of 80%?

I have a BB9700, BB9800, iPhone 4, iPod Touch, iPad, Macbook Pro, PC Netbook, 3x PC laptops at home.

Guess which ones have failed, had a virus or needed a reinstall due to corrupt files?

BB's and all 3 PC laptops.

And I'm a tech junkie so I do my best and install all the malware, antivirus and security stuff on all my devices. PC's are just vulnerable in terms of internet surfing and downloads...there's too much out there to filter through that something eventually will get through.

My Mac products have never gotten a virus....or one that caused anything I've noticed. Who knows.

This is just my experience. I don't really care to argue which is "safer." We're all doomed the government and Illuminati have all our !++% anyways.

Google Chrome OS (cr-48)> mac os x> win7 os

Get your OS game up, shun.

I don't even use safari on the mac, the damm browser makes my mac hot with light web surfing. Having secure operating system is very important to me and only Google Chrome is able to provide the proper security no wonder they having been able to hack it even though its open source it what really amazes me.

These pwn2own is great cause it also operating systems developers reevaluate the security in their software, even though they should have been on this from day 1.

Weren't people getting malware from some of the ads on here awhile back? Not everybody knows the best virus protection software etc and some people are completely computer illiterate. My family always had Macs growing up and I'm typing on an old macbook pro from 2006, but I don't really prefer them or anything. I have a desktop pc and use it way  more than the laptop for work and stuff and have never had any problems with viruses.
Only time I ever got a virus was on my work computer because I was trying to download some pirated software for this guy I worked with and I clicked a really obviously shady link because I was half asleep. Turned my wallpaper black and put a bunch of porn icons all over my desktop and the whole bit. The worst part was my monitor was at the end of the hallway of our office and in plain sight for everyone to see

Luckily nobody ever saw it before I got rid of it though.

I've never once gotten a virus in my 15 years of using a Mac. Leave me alone

Lol but how can you really think Google Chrome OS is the best OS. Its not even the best open source os. I just cant see how someone can say something like that.

Well in terms of security yeah it will be the best in class, look how pwn2own hasn't been able to hack it last year and know one hasn't been able to set forward to this year to hack it again.

Well not really case google chrome os you must always be connected to the internet, no offline work at all, even if your using google docs to type something you must be connected. Its an okay os if your like me who is always on the internet and barely use desktop software. Also Google chrome its in its own class cause the browser is the os.

All browsers have their own traits, what ever you like to use and feel comfortable with use it. I used to like fire fox, but till it kept crashing on me and slowing my (at the time vista hi-tech pc) I stopped using it. Even Safari on the mac be crashing on certain basis and Google Chrome too, but Google Chrome hasn't crashed on me as much as safari did. All depends on the user though. Not saying its the best

IE 9 sucks to hell with microsoft.(Steve Ballmer is to blame)
