yea.... they are. The only thing you need to worry about is the glue drying out and the sole separating. But that can be easily fixed at a shoe repair store.

I still have my OG Breds in my car as back-ups and they're still wearable.

Yeah, they're still wearable. Only issue I had with my pair was the patent cracking a little.

it depends, some of these OG sneakers are hard to tell if they are wearable or not
i had a pair of 99' cements, soft mid-sole
worn them around and just 1 day took them out 4 day
came home and they started falling apart.

not really....... its just the material that was used in that particular #...... 11's and up used different materials that dont crumble overtime like your IV's, so the only thing he has to worry about is the sole separating due to the glue drying out.
