I use this:

It's not especially stiff and doesn't add much shine. I just use a little to smooth my hair - it gets pretty frizzy if I don't. I don't need a lot of hold to do that. It's a little longer than usual right now and the same product is doing a nice job of holding some shape - but without being stiff.

i've tried using paste, wax, and pomade.  but the only thing that holds my hair into place is got2b hair glue.  it pushes my hair flat though and makes it stiff.
i'll try out that American Crew stuff.  i should hit up sally's beauty supply and try out a bunch of stuff.

I use crew pomade, i don't have waves like people in the wave thread; by waves i think OP meant kind of wavy straight hair, IE- Shia Labeouf.

Or take a shower at night, wake up in the morning and add a little warm water to give form and done, nice wavy hair.
