biggest nba trade ever: vc, arenas, hedo, jrich, lewis, pietrus, gortrat to suns/wiz/magic

The Magic took themselves out of championship contention with their moves.

The Magic are probably going to have to put a more traditional starting lineup on the floor now: Nelson, Jrich, Turkgolu, Bass and Howard.  This five gives you the most balance but also it makes the magic a little more guardable than in day's past.

Part of what made the magic's offense dangerous was that lewis played that stretch 4 position and took the opponent's 4 out of the paint, which not only gave Howard more room to operate but forced rotation which freed up the other shooters because the opponent's 4 couldn't guard Lewis out to the 3.

Now opponents will be able to keep 2 bigs in the paint and won't have to scramble as much to guard the 3 point line.

Sure Turk and Jrich and Nelson can all shoot 3's but chances are they're going to have to create their own 3's.

Now if you want to go with a more offensively dangerous, uptempo lineup: Nelson, Arenas, Jrich, Turkoglu, Howard...well, they can do that.  And they probably will do it a lot.  Turkoglu will be able to play that stretch 4 position here.  Problem is, that lineup has an undersized backcourt that wouldn't be able to guard a tree.  Positions 1-4 will be able to waltz into the paint and put Howard into foul trouble.

Speaking of Howard in foul trouble, which already happens a lot, who's going to back up Howard now?  Bass?

Let's say Howard's in foul trouble and you want to give Nelson a blow: look at this other lineup that the Magic can put on the floor.  Arenas, Jrich, Quentin Richardson or JJ, Turkgolu, Bass.  That lineup, too, is going to die against offensively competent units.

Letting Matt Barnes walk, keeping Q Rich, trading away Pietrus who was probably their best perimeter defender, taking away Gortat who was the only backup big man..  I swear these are all moves they're going to regret.

JJ Redick is probably the best perimeter defender on this new magic squad smh.  And I don't even know where they are going to insert JJ.  I'm going to assume he's going to be behind Arenas and Jrich on the new depth chart.

^you broke that down pretty well...erything except ur first sentence makes sense...they will finish as the 3 or 4 seed, basically where they were before the trade

 Huh?

Man, some of you really have no clue what you're talking about

. The Magic's system was terrible for a player like Vince. People have an agenda when it comes to VC, and usually they run their mouths and repeat the same thing everyone else says, without even knowing the facts.

Watch what happens when he gets to Phoenix. I put that on everything.

They will still be in the playoffs though. My main concern, as you pointed out was the lack of bigs. In the NBA, you NEED at least 3 solid bigs that you can rotate to be successful. Look at the recent championship teams. The Magic probably need four. I think the lack of big men will come back to bite them.

I don't get why Van Gundy sticks with Nelson over Arenas. I still think Arenas can be their best perimeter player, so why bring him off the bench? It's not like having Jameer as your point has any benefits - he has no court vision and usually is looking to score.

Umm...why do you think VC and Rashard were having issues?  Nelson is not a championship caliber point guard.  He has zero court vision and he dribbles the ball the entire 24 sec clock.  That's why I said this trade didn't solve their problems.  Arenas will have the same issues being on the court at the same time as Jameer.  They both can't have the ball.  And I'd rather Arenas have the ball than Jameer
