Fans yawn at A-Rod tell-all
NEW YORK (AP)-Remember that tell-all book about A-Rod?

Just a month after making headlines with its allegations that the New York Yankees star likely used steroids as far back as high school, Selena Roberts' "A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez(notes)" has vanished from best seller lists.

Published in early May by HarperCollins with an announced first printing of 150,000, "A-Rod" has sold just 16,000 copies so far, according to Nielsen BookScan, which tracks about 75 percent of industry sales. The book sold 11,000 in its first week, then quickly faded.

At the Rizzoli Bookstore in midtown Manhattan, "A-Rod" has sold two copies. Twenty-seven copies have sold at Posman Books, based in Grand Central Terminal, but none in the past two weeks.

"I don't think he's ever been embraced by serious fans," Logan Fox, a manager at Posman, said Wednesday. "He's still considered an outsider."

"A-Rod" fell off The New York Times' hardcover list of nonfiction best sellers after three weeks, peaking at No. 9 in late May. As of Wednesday afternoon, the book ranked No. 2,904 on Amazon.com, where even James Frey's discredited memoir "A Million Little Pieces"-at 1,776-is outselling it.

Good for A-Rod. This b was just trying to make a quick buck off of BSPN's hype trying to oust A-Rod. Sure he was caught, did we really need abook about it though?

Really insightful and intelligent thought there, thanks

And for the topic, no real surprise, people are tired of the same story. Baseball had a lot of cheaters, we get it

i wasnt trying to be insightful or intelligent ... telling it like it is ... someone who preys on others misfortunes (and doesnt even succeed) should getridiculed in public to see how they like it ... hope an old boyfriend releases a sex tape of miss selena ... i bet it would sell more than 16,000 copies ...

Whats to read when you go on the circuit and tell everything thats in the book?

Eh, I had read several places that the book literally carried no weight, and the content in the book was not nearly as hard hitting as all the accusationsleading up to it would have led you to believe...

Ain't Selena Roberts the same idiot that went IN during the Duke Lacrosse fiasco a few years back? And it turned out she was dead #!* wrong?

Being ridiculed in public is different than getting mauled by a pitbull. Being ridiculed is something I may be able to get in board with

And she has never apologize for it to this day. She's a $@%$+ if you ask me.

Out of sight out of mind. Arod hiding out for the first month of the season helped him in many ways

Good. %!!%$ has no integrity as a journalist or person (re: Duke LAX).

Glad...I figured it would though. No one really cared to hear what this woman had to say.

The sad thing is though, there isn't much integrity left in reporting. It's all about selling books. People used to be sued for slander, not anymore...

Take this recent story for example...
Angry Ibanez insists he is clean
An angry Raul Ibanez(notes), off to a blistering start since joining the Philadelphia Phillies, insisted his offensive output has not been as the result of using performance-enhancing drugs, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

"I'll come after people who defame or slander me," he said before last night's game against the New York Mets. "It's pathetic and disgusting. There should be some accountability for people who put that out there."

The leftfielder, who turned 37 last week, entered last night tied for first in the National League with 54 RBIs. He was second in home runs with 19. Over his career, Ibanez's 162-game averages for homers and RBIs are 23 and 95, respectively, according to Baseball-Reference.com.

"Unfortunately, I understand the environment we're in and the events that have led us to this era of speculation," he said. "At the same time, you can't just walk down the street and accuse somebody of being a thief because they didn't have a nice car yesterday and they do today. You can't say that guy is a thief."

Ibanez said he had never used performance-enhancing drugs, according to the Daily News.

"You can have my urine, my hair, my blood, my stool - anything you can test," Ibanez said. "I'll give you back every dime I've ever made" if the test is positive.
