camera help vol. point and shoot

i need help from the photographers here. searched but those threads were years old so i guess they can't apply now since new cameras come out every month. can you guys recommend me a point and shoot? someone told me about the lumix lx5 but at like $500 i think it's a little too much for a point and shoot. i think canon is the best for p&s so what can you guys recommend? thanks!
