Been looking to get a car since last year. Favorite car is the Lexus GS 3rd generation. Wanted to get one more closer to 2015 which would be the 2011 model. Prices have been over 25k which I'm trying to avoid. Over the weekend I found a 2008 AWD with 46k miles for 20k. Also found another 2008 AWD but for 16k and 75k miles.

Car one - $20k, 46k miles, had 2 previous owners, owner got into 2 accidents(not sure how serious). Test drove it last night and it's pretty smooth. KBB says suggested price should be between 25-27k.

Car two - $16k, 74k miles, 5 previous owners, no reported accidents, haven't test driven it yet. KBB suggested $21-23k.

Dealer did pull a sneaky stunt on me. I saw the car on Saturday for 20k, called Sunday to make sure it was there, checked the site again yesterday and it was $25k. I called and they told me based on a 500 mile radius this was one of 3 and it was the cheapest, I know it's a lie because car 2 if less than 5 miles from the dealership. I used that as mmy argument and they tried to tell me car 2 was not AWD. She said she'd honor the 20k since I saw it before the change but now that made it harder for me to bring it down.

My question is would you sacrifice mileage for a savings about 4k or go after the one with significantly less mileage for an estimated 21k before interest?

fam do not buy it from a corner lot used car dealership

ur better off getting a car loam and buying from a used private parrty

Leave both cars alone and keep searching. Check Edmunds.com. I trust there appraisal >> kbb

Would not even consider car 1 unless I knew about how bad the accidents were, too much potential for frame damage and major mechanical issues.

Car 2 also is very unappealing because a car that changes hands that much is likely to be neglected maintenance wise.

For a Lexus, higher mileage really doesn't scare me unless it's really high, but the other facts about each car would have me skeptical until I got an independent inspection to confirm (or not) my above suspicions.

Always liked that model GS though, nice sleek and low key body style, and very comfortable to drive

omariwestafari omariwestafari Its certified pre owned.

R req81 Edmonds told me 22k

getyashinebox getyashinebox That's what I was thinking too but because of the car fax I just assumed it wasn't too crazy. I inspected the car and couldn't find nothing too bad but I'm not a mechanic. Drove the car and tried to push it and it took off with no issues. I wasn't in a super rush to cop but the mileage and the price is what gets me. I guess I'm thinking it'll be hard to catch a deal like this again.

I know I ask this all the time...

but why not lease?

I've explored that option but I really don't car to get a new car every few years. I'm the type to get a car and ride out til the wheels fall off. And I like the 4th generation gs but I don't love it. Also I don't think I can modify a lease too much.

I guess if modding is your thing then that's all that you need to buy over lease.

I like using cargurus.com when looking at cars because unlike kbb they give you a real time value for the car. Meaning the values they give you are based on the prices for the same car with similar options that are selling around the area. There's an option to look up by vin number so they can pull the exact info on the car.

Had a lexus gs 3rd gen before. Pretty solid car. Was a little boring to drive but it was damn beautiful.

I would wait if I were you. Those two don't look like very good deals. Either wait or find a place outside of a close proximity. Then drive it back home.

I actually see a few around me with decent mielage asking in the $20k range

What's a Lexus? Haven't heard of them in years or seen them around. Kind of forgot about them

But I would go with the16k one all the way!

Miles really don't matter on a Lexus, you will just break it in over 100k. They good for well over 200k miles

How is the 2nd one not a good deal?

Be careful buying a AWD and putting stagger wheels on it. Especially the GS as they are known to give a weird vibration from it.

The GS is bullet proof bruh one of the best value sedans out there along with the Accord and Camry. :lol

I dribe damb near 25K miles a year and that ***** has held me down.

Dude above is right about the vibrations though, after every alignment mine tends to vibrate at 60-62mph for a few weeks then it goes away. My only complaint.

I know cause bought a wifey and put some cv3s stagger and joint was vibrating like a mug ... I research and it was like that on a bunch of people ... That's why I stay with my Americans.

Love car threads on NT. Never fails. Lease vs owning, M3, bunch of irrelevant recommendations, then renting vs owning a house.
