If you don't mind shared spaces (like bathroom or even bedroms), look into hostels. They are dorm style rooms, but they are much cheaper. Or I can connectyou with the lady I stayed with in West Harlem (the nice part) for only 20$ a night. She's nice, African lady, bought a whole bunch of food for me andwrote my name on it in marker so nobody else there would eat it

It's also one of the few parts of the city you can (parallel) park for free too.

ALso, check out http://www.airbnb.com That's how I got in connect with her to begin with. There's also some gooddeals on full apartments too if you want more privacy (which is actually what I booked but she said her neice came into town so she gave it to her).

ALso, don't count out staying in Newark either. It's just 4$ to catch the bus or train back into the city, and I stayed at the 4 star Hilton there for57$ a night courtesy of hotwire.com

edit: In fact, really get at me about hte place in Harlem. I left 40$, a basketball pump, and a whole chicken over there, so maybe she'll let you credit my40$ onto your stay. Check craiglists too http://newyork.craigslist.org/vac

I mean, it depends. A lot of people are out all day anyways and just need a place to sleep. The lady's site is http://www.comfortstaynyc.com It's a "business" she runs renting out her apartments and rooms, not like justsome random lady I met. A hostel, I came close to doing it at 1 of the YMCA hostels because I thought that was hot I could be hooping 24/7 whenever Iwasn't in the city, but I hoop all the time here, why the %%$! I wanna do it up there instead of seeing the sights. BUt dude is looking for cheap in NYC.It's not like he has tons of options to be choosy. I assume by cheap he means sub 100$ a night
