Cold Showers thread? vol. Hydrotherapy

I think the claim is that if you sleep with no pillow, like cavemen did, if forves you to breath out of your nose (or mouth, dont know which) and that somehow results it some health benefits

I dunno why dudes just don't get a sleep study instead

You definitely want to breath through your nose. Mouth breathers look like their breath stinks. What more can I say, but if you breath through your mouth you'll end up butt ugly.
 
Every now and then I like to buss out the occasional cold shower. Here's my routine. I start off warm, to get my body wet. Then I turn the water off and lather up real proper, soap or badu wash, whatever you rock with, soap up and make sure every inch of your body from your neck down is soaped up and lathered. Use a different wash rag for your butt crack and genitalia. Let the soap sit on ya skin for a minute. I call this the conditioning phase. Works best if you got some high quality soap too. Then turn the water on FULL FORCE arctic mode. Rinse off, and keep that ice water splashing on your body so it closes your pores. Wash your face with cold water. Use the apricot scrub exfoliator and rinse with cold water to tighten up those pores. I don't use a towel to dry either, I lay a towel on my bed, lay flat down back down on it in the snow angel position, and turn the ceiling fan on high speed. It's the most hygienic and best way to get dry

After that, baby powder on the crack and balls, cocoa Shea butter everywhere else, spf15 facial moisturizer on the face.

The hair is a whole other regimen

I did cryo therapy last week.

Stood up in a freezing chamber for 3 minutes.

Came out feeling brand new!
 
I cant for the life of me take cold showers...Maybe when its really warm a cooler shower but never ice cold. I do at the end of my shower run ice cold water through my hair its supposed to be really good for hair but other than that the hotter the better!

Makes sense that it would be better for the skin too. I read somewhere else that it lowers the amount of Parabens and other estrogenic compounds that you would normally absorb as well.

Katherine would take ice-cold baths or showers during childhood and for the rest of her life — she would advise others to do so as well. The actress swore by cold showers, and had a high energy level to support her claims.

2. Refines Hair and Skin

When it comes to hair and skin, one of the most natural ways to maintain your appearance is with cold showers. Hot water has the tendency to dry out our skin, so it’s best to use cold water to tighten your cuticles and pores, which will prevent them from getting clogged. Cold water can “seal” the pores in the skin and scalp too, preventing dirt from getting in.

Jessica Krant, board-certified dermatologist, told The Huffington Post that ice-cold or lukewarm water can help our skin and prevent it from being stripped of its healthy natural oils too quickly. Remember, cold water only temporarily tightens skin as it constricts blood flow, but it does not shrink pores. 4. Stimulates Weight Loss

Cold showers can aid weight loss in an unexpected way. The human body contains two types of fat tissue, white fat and brown fat. White fat is accumulated when we consume more calories than our body needs to function, and we don’t burn these calories for energy. This body fat piles up at our waist, lower back, neck, and thighs, and is the one we all struggle to eliminate. Brown fat is the good fat, which generates heat to keep our bodies warm, and is activated when exposed to extreme cold, according to the Joslin Diabetes Center, a Harvard Medical School affiliate. Thus, cold showers can promote brown fat activity.

A 2009 study found that exposure to extreme cold temperatures activated brown fat in 23 and 24 participants by a 15-fold increase, meaning someone could lose up to nine pounds in a year if they kept this practice up.

5. Speeds Up Muscle Soreness and Recovery

We have all seen athletes taking ice baths after training to reduce muscle soreness, but a quick cold shower after breaking a sweat at the gym can be just as effective, especially in relieving delayed-onset muscle soreness. A 2009 study analyzing 17 trials involved over 360 people who either rested or immersed themselves in cold water after resistance training, cycling, or running. It found that 24-minute cold water baths were effective in relieving sore muscles one to four days after exercises with a water temperature of 50 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit, or 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. However, some studies involved colder temperatures.

6. Eases Stress

Jumping into the shower without letting it heat up, or going into the ocean without slowly acclimating to it, can help promote hardening, increasing tolerance to stress, and even disease. A 1994 study found a drastic decrease in uric acid levels during and following exposure to a cold stimulus. There was also an increase in gluthathione, an antioxidant that keeps all other antioxidants performing at their optimal levels. The participants, who were 10 healthy people who swam regularly in ice-cold water during the winter, adapted to repeated oxidative stress.

7. Relieves Depression

Cold showers have been shown to relieve depression symptoms due to the intense impact of cold receptors in the skin, which send an overwhelming amount of electrical impulses from the peripheral nerve endings to the brain. Thus, it produces an antidepressive effect, and boosts moods, making it a pick-me-up. A 2008 study found that cold hydrotherapy has an analgesic effect, and does not appear to have noticeable side effects or cause dependence. This treatment included one to two cold showers of 38 degrees Fahrenheit, two to three minutes long, followed by a five-minute gradual adaptation to make the procedure less shocking.

Edit: I wash my hair twice a week. I'm black of that matters. I keep it cold because hot water will ruin your hair. First I throw in some Pantene shampoo, use my brush to brush with the grain, then rinse with cold water. Conditioning time. Sometimes I use Pantene conditioner and other times I use raw coconut milk. I throw the conditioner in and throw on a shower cap and lounge for about 30 minutes. Perfect chill bath tub time. After that, I rinse it off with cold water, pat towel dry my hair, and moisturize with cold pressed coconut oil

Been on these since summer when I was too stubborn to buy A/C. Turns out..

Anxiety : Demolished.
Depression : Relieved to some extent.

More energy, clearer skin, softer hair. Cold showers even helped alleviate some basic soreness I've had in my feet since high school basketball.

This is my new religion. Once a day no matter what, twice if I have the time. Any other followers?

man yall are weirdos i love the cold and i cant stand a cold shower unless its a hot day n ive been tired/sweating outside

my girl loves cold showers hot day cold day its always a cold shower for her :lol

Also I think a lot of ppl are assuming that cold shower addicts like myself are going full throttle from the get-go. Please.. I'm as much of a {()} as anyone else.

Start warm, then luke-warm, then gradually get full cold and then just grab the Dr. Boddens, lather up and go about your normal routine.

I may be an exception but it's been a game-changer, and honestly more mentally than physically.

Keep on telling my friends "It's like being stoned only you don't get sleepy." It's not quite as fun as being stoned but the mental clarity is so damn relaxing.

Hmm.... Willing to keep giving this a try.

Did it again this morning almost all the way cold.. Was able to last until the finish but I was scrubbing fast as hell, freezing my johnson off.

Feeling like you're freezing to death obviously is going to make you mad alert, didn't notice the other benefits though (likely 'cause I haven't been doing it long).

So how does cold showers work for yall when yall hop out the shower, walk up to your chick wit ya lil man and sack all shriveled up like a sack of raisins talmbout some if i catch you ima slap you wit the shrivled Apricot

I tried the cold shower thing today and it definitely woke me up and had me feeling crisp but I gotta run that hot water over my piece before I get out to get me right I'm not walking around on chicken nugget dawg.
