I been out the loop for a month but feels like a year.

FNL coach is Hal Jordan now? That just screams Hal is super disposable imo. Not hating on the actor but he doesn’t have star power and every time I see him in something really good it’s usually in a smaller role specially ever since FNL ended. Last thing I recall him in is being Hawkguy’s brother who dies after like one or two episodes in Mayor of Kingstown.

I feel like WB trying to run these two parallel DC film divisions to make profit now and prep **** for the future is gonna backfire. Is that DC black film studio even official yet?

it essentially makes these movies pointless. I think that's why ppl are viewing it as controversial.

They were pointless to begin with

It was an alleged Joker movie with no Batman where he just goes crazy, terrorizes the city for a bit, get arrested and stays alive long enough to see a trial.

It was just a Joker movie. Not no origin. Arthur Fleck was never really The Joker.

But hey, ppl hyped that first garbage movie up til it reached a billi. No way it wasn’t getting a sequel. This is pretty much what they deserved.

Sounds like somebody @ Sony got a job at DC now.

Keep pushing these Batman villain movies with no Batman.

i'll say one more thing about Joker, whoever made the trailer for that dumpster fire used pretty much every second of action that movie had.

i just saw the trailer and laughed just thinking how many people are going in with super high expectations and leaving with a stank face

After arguing that no one who watched Joker wanted a musical sequel, they argue that Warner Bros. Discovery's biggest misstep was premiering the movie at the Venice Film Festival last month. Because of that, Joker: Folie à Deux sat on Rotten Tomatoes for a month with middling reviews, so why showcase a mediocre - or downright bad - movie at such a high-profile event?

"Sources tell me it was all part of Warner Bros. appeasing Phillips," the trade writes, "which is why they allowed him to make this auteur-ish Stephen Sondheim-like feature in the first place. Between the Hangover franchise and Joker, Warner Bros. has reaped $2.5 billion off of Phillips’ fare at the box office. What do you do with a director whose done that much for you? Give him final cut."

Had the movie skipped Venice and been screened earlier this week (as is typically the case with high-profile comic book movies), it may have added a further $10 million to its opening weekend.

It's also revealed that Joker: Folie à Deux wasn't tested before being released and didn't go over budget with that reported $190 million - $200 million spend.

However, at least $50 million of that went to filmmaker Todd Phillips and stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.

I thought about walking out several times and didn't get into it until Arthur "became" Joker in the courtroom. It looked gorgeous and Gaga and Phoenix are great but the film was brutally-paced and claustrophobic - we only leave prison and court once.

I've read a few breakdowns on Twitter and from some non-negative POVs, this is Todd Phillips pushing back against everyone who watched Joker and said, "this guy is the man, I want to be an agent of chaos like him."

This film is Todd saying, "Nah, you don't want to champion this dude. He's suffering from severe mental illness and he's a murderer. He needs help and shouldn't be your halloween costume. I don't want you to fall in love with the spectacle of Joker, I want you to reckon with the humanity of Arthur."

That's why there are so many moments to go above and beyond to make Arthur look weak (he's even more emaciated, the "can you help?" scene with Lee, and that prison guard scene (smh) are real blatant attempts to kill his anti-hero status.

Like how Nope is about not getting sucked into the spectacle, Joker 2 is the same thing: Don't follow this clown, he's just some poor dude.

This film was a mea culpa with no real story to tell. The singing just filled empty space. With that said, I prefer my Joker as the maniac clown prince of crime and I hope Barry Keoghan can bring that energy back for a flick with Rob.
