{EXCLUSIVE} WARNER BROS. DEVELOPING BOOSTER GOLD/BLUE BEETLE MOVIE WITH GREG BERLANTI HELMING

UPDATED: Our buddies over at Heroic Hollywood now report that Zak Penn is being courted to leave Marvel’s camp for DC’s playpen, circling to script the Blue Beetle/Booster Gold team-up film.

Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, two DC Comics superheros that have long been rumored to appear in either an upcoming film or TV show, are now being groomed for a team-up feature from Warner Bros. Sources exclusive to The Tracking Board can now confirm that Greg Berlanti, the force behind the successful DC comics TV series Arrow and The Flash, will be heavily involved with this one, set to direct and executive produce. Sarah Schechter will also executive produce, while Julia Spiro will oversee for the studio.

In a massively different approach from Warner’s current slate, the film will team the two heroes together in what’s being pitched as a superhero buddy cop movie. Comedy is the emphasis here, which is a stark contrast to the other titles in DC’s Cinematic Universe, breaking the mold of the uber serious and grounded Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The Booster Gold/Blue Beetle team-up movie is only another in a long line from Warner, which is developing several crossover films for it’s DC characters, with Suicide Squad, Justice League, and Green Lantern Corps to name a few.

How long until Berlanti walks off the project?

:lol

But if it goes down, I do hear there's fans of this duo in comics but the vibe will be very different than what we've seen so far in DC movies. If WB lets this go I can see them not caring either way and it'll be pretty good but if they interfere it'll end up like Green Lantern and R.I.P.D. :x

DC is apparently toying with the idea of Erza's Flash being gay

Umberto said on periscope their "plan" is to have a more diverse CU than Marvel and they're interested in targeting the LGBT community.
Makes some sense from what little I know of Flash in the comics. I think some times he ends up with Iris.

Flash on the CW is a simp and beta and is never getting the girl so why not make him gay in the movies so he can be the bottom.

Lame and unnecessary

^it's not "sometimes" he ends up with Iris, before the new 52 they'd been married for decades :lol

Dude has children and grandchildren by Iris :lol he's probably the only mainstream DC hero with grandkids

Well the rumor is they want to be more diverse than Marvel. So they double down on getting a gay actor to play a hero they're gonna make gay.

As for why him? I assume Matt Bomer and NPH said no :lol

IVE BEEN WAITING FOR A FLASH MOVIE FOR LIKE 6 YEARS… MAKING HIM GAY WOULD JUST BE A TERRIBLE SLAP IN THE FACE.. I DONT HAVE THE SLIGHTEST THING AGAINST ANYONE BEING GAY… I JUST WANT THE CHARACTERS TO BE TRUE TO THE DAMN COMICS… SAME THING WITH WHAT THEY DID TO JHONNY STORM.. AND IM LATINO/BLACK FYI

^
Kinda reminds me of how the diehard Ghostbusters fans were fiending for a new movie for so many years. Then news of a new one made them so happy only to have their hearts broken when they announced it was mccarthy and her bridesmaids friends doing the busting.

Flash is a bloodline, generational story, not sure being gay makes sense. RIP Kid Flash.
Kid Flash can still work. The OG Kid Flash Wally West isn't blood related, so he could be Barry's boyfriend's nephew instead of his girlfriend's

No Bart Allen tho. Actually Bart is the only one of the four Flashes to actually be related to Barry so I guess they could make do without him

Never knew Flash being straight was ever that big of a deal or that important to the core character. I did know he did marry Iris at some point and that was the status quo but I wasn't really aware it mattered much.

And yeah the only other Flash I recall being related to Barry was Bart.

Wally and Jay had their own origins.

I'm surprised they didn't just make someone in suicide squad bi or gay. Seems like if they really wanted to test the LGBT community out that film would of been the perfect place.

I don't mind him being gay as long as the movie is good. They need to keep Iris West on as the hot bestie though.

Being a LBGT villain doesn't count or at least that's what I'm seeing from ppl in the community online on message boards.

The notion is simply the villain is the bad guy, sometimes outright evil, and they don't want to associate being LBGT with evil or bad acts. I get that but overall it just tells me we're simply not at that point where diversity in the antagonist is as important as diversity with the protagonist.

To start off it makes sense to focus on the good guys being LBGT. It wouldn't work with SS unless that villain would be making a face turn to anti-hero or full on good guy.

Plus from the rumors, it doesn't sound like WB is testing anything. Making one of their core JL members gay is a big move and it goes in line with being something Marvel hasn't even touched yet. 7-8 years in and the Avengers are mostly white with no signs of any LBGT characters. Around 4-5 years in to DC/WB movies they'll have their WW movie and the JL movie that'll possibly have 2 black heroes (don't forget Cyborg :lol) and a gay Flash.

My issue with gay Barry is that Barry in the comics always came off as this Midwest conservative dude; like I can guarantee dude is a registered Republican pre-New 52.

Dude gave off way more of a "small town USA American pie" vibe than even Superman did

So IDK what to think, really. As long as the movie is good, I suppose I'm fine with whatever. I'm already upset with wimpy friendzone hipster Barry in the TV series. Guy doesn't even have blonde hair

Just going off what was done in MOS with Superman, I'd say more so than Marvel with their changes in the movies, DC/WB are making their movie JL heroes different in a lot of key places.

In a world where Supes kills the way he does, all bets are off with the other guys.

The face was done well. Just as good as Vision but everything else I don't get.

Why'd they use that material for the body? Such a weird choice.

...is this supposed to take place in the DC TV or movie verse?
The way I understand it, Supergirl exists within it's own universe within the larger DC cinematic multiverse the same way Gotham does and I assume Constantine did.

The CW shows exist in another shared universe that just happens to have more shows. So technically there is no tv verse.
