I get a feeling they made Eisenberg a JR. just in case lol and I said this before, I don't necessarily blame Eisenberg I blame the writers for this portrayal of Lex.
As far as multiple timelines, jumping between timelines may be the new thing with Star Wars rogue one coming out and eps. 7-9. Plus talks of solo Han Solo films...maybe the start of a trend
