DC Studios THREAD - GunnVerse Begins - The Penguin out 9/19 then every Sunday on MAX

Can we all agree to not bash a DC casting decision until the movie comes out? So far your guys have been 1 for 5. I'll grant you Jesse Esinberg, but you all have been wrong about Ben Afflek, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Jason Mammoa. It's the usual cycle of people complaining about a casting choice and then the movie comes out and suddenly everyone is praising their portrayal.
you do realize the criticisms for the various characters were all for different reasons, right?

for example, i had faith in Affleck.. but i didn't like them going with a batman that was at his very least in his 40s, considering him and green arrow arent superhuman (which I'm still not a fan of)

i questioned gal, because she was rail thin in the last thing i had seen her in:

Gal was skinny as hell and I wanted a swole Wonder Woman.

I never hated on battfleck but yall should look at the first couple pages in this thread... dudes had no faith in Ben period :lol

I thought it was a strange choice for sure but I really had no idea how he would approach the character. Safe to say we were all pleasantly surprised.

But what does that have to do with the actor choosen to play that role? You may have a problem with that characterization, but the general complaints i've seen come from that particular person being tapped to play that role.

I was not with Gal being casted as she was jus the hot chick from FF. She put her work in though

How are people wrong about Ezra and Momoa if the movie hasn't even come out yet? You said so yourself: let's not bash the casting until the movie is out. Would we still be in the wrong if we start heaping undue praise on the decisions?

Going by the trailer, I feel safe in saying the Momoa is gonna be a badass and Ezra is gonna be a soft wimp that'll probably provide some laughs and then come into his own heroism in the final act.

ben Affleck himself is 43.. i would say he could pull off playing batman in his early 30s, which is what they should have done

but they were piggybacking off of the dark knight returns, in which batman is pretty old

because some of the concerns expressed about casting are legit concerns (doesn't just apply to DCEU)..

you're sweeping with a very general broom

My only concerns were Gal Gadot and Jesse Eisenberg. I was very wrong about Gal. I ate my words. I even gave credit and props to shogun shogun , who told us all that it'd work. It got buried in the mess of this thread during BVS opening weekend though.

I actually like these films and I want to see them succeed critically and commercially, because then it opens up the opportunity to more of them. To get more characters. We're getting a Booster Gold movie. I never thought that would ever happen. I would love to see characters like Martian Manhunter and Zatanna in future movies.

I don't remember people having a problem with Momoa being cast. Most liked that they were going to make Aquaman a beast.

I agree with this; I have no problem with people not liking the casting but giving the benefit of the doubt til the movie drops.

I think we're all agreed on Momoa but I should throw yall some Cliffs on Barry Allen as a character.

Barry Allen as The Flash died in the 80s and Wally took over. If yall go back and read his solo series which ended when he died, especially the last couple issues, it becomes readily apparent that Barry Allen back then was truly a non-character in every sense of the word.

Literally his only defining trait was his constant lateness and ******* up with Iris (before they got married).

Barry was hyped up as "the greatest Flash" for 20 years when Wally West should have rightfully had that spot. It was all for the sake of appeasing the fans and Wally's incessant hardon for his former mentor. His only trait in the 90s/2000s was as a benchmark for Wally.

Barry was brought back in the late 2000s and retooled as more of a complete character. He had kind of a nerdy, naive personality, the awkwardness was ramped up, etc. And that's the Barry Allen we have today, which I don't hate.

So that's why Barry is a simp on TV and we have Ezra being a talkative motor mouth kid in the movies. I think Ezra will flourish.

but I think most got that with all the jokes about aquaman, going with a bada@*(#* looking guy might be best

but wasn't like Michael b. Jordan playing johnny storm or idris elba playing an asgardian.. not even heath ledger playing joker.. just those folks who want a matthew mccoonaughey looking dude

I can make some sense of that. I guess the only Barry Allen I've really seen is the one from the Flashpoint animated feature (which I loved) and that Barry hasn't matched up with any live action Barry that I've seen yet. If new Barry is meant to be a younger more awkward hero a la Peter Parker then I can see the direction they're going with in the upcoming JL movie.

But maybe Ezra would've made a better Wally West.

And for the record, I never doubted Battfleck and didn't know enough about Gadot. I knew that Ben had the talent for it and a thin wiry Wonder Woman never bothered me. I just always saw her as having superhuman strength anyway so there would be no need for brolic muscles. I was just glad they got someone tall... y;know like an Amazon.

I love him much more than Barry but Wally could never be the live action Flash. JL the animated series skipped this crucial part of his mythos but the biggest motivation for his character was the fact that he woke up every day and thought "Oh my God. It's still not a dream. I get to be Kid Flash/The Flash today." He idolized Th Flash and it was his dream to be a superhero.

Which is why it was so stupid that they killed him in Young Justice as opposed to Barry.

^^ I remember that. Part of me hoped they would bring him back in Season 3. When Artemis dons her old costume; had me all in my feels :( .

gabrielle reece is the epitome of what I thought WW should look like.. not brolic.. but more functional strength.. not bulky by any means, but tall and toned

doubted gal would be able to put on the weight that she has.. some people are just thin no matter what

figured cobie smulders, Jaime alexander or Adrianne palicki would be better fits

Grant doesn't play Barry Allen either... TV dudes man

Ezra scene had the biggest pop in the reaction video :hat

Palicki bae has a great body.

wally west on young justice was the worst. If that's how he'll act in a movie then he needs to stay away.

Wally was cool.

I appreciated them retooling him as a science genius who replicated Barry's accident on his own and being mad logical/skeptical. I actually liked YJ Wally better than JL Wally.

I hate people and characters with that type of personality. Wish I could press a mute button for them.

Is that suppose to be a critic kicking away the **** that is BvS?

no its me kicking amel for his biased opinion

lol @ a couple of you taking a gif seriously

i like how people talk about fanboys but are too self righteous to realize their own bias
I wasn't taking it seriously but I'm not gonna explain it cuz then it loses all meaning.

Rooting for Suicide Squad to give Marvel and its fanboys a reality check.

We legit picking teams?

What part of the game is paying to watch a movie and hoping it will be bad?!

I hope SS will be good because I was and am planning on paying to go see it..

If it is bad, then hopefully something comes up that Friday and I can't go, then I get a chance to hear some of the word of mouth before I waste my money
Dude has this odd hypocritical dislike for the MCU.

I can already expect no matter the quality of the movie for him to be praising it and claiming its better than Civil War.

Its just a few ppl like that in these threads :lol
So people can't dislike the color palette? It's a minor thing. People can say what they don't like along with what they like.
The problem here is that since the DC fans who want the movies to be great have dealt with **** movies and negativity for so long they're extra sensitive to any criticism or opinion that's not positive.

So even something minor that shouldn't get much attention like color palette gets blown out of proportion with a few fanboys reacting to it from a dozen posts to pgs of discussion on a minor critique.

They're all on edge all the time. At least until DC actually releases a great movie (that I guess isn't Batman cuz they've been pretty good with that).

I have never in my life heard people complain about a color palette in a movie. These criticisms go above and beyond the pale of critiquing a movie.
People been complaining about Snyder's unnecessarily dark and muted colors since day 1. It only works for certain movies.

They (fans who don't like it) even made a version of MOS where the colors were much more vibrant and bright.

But sure you never heard any of that before.
Mother **** a Grant Gustin.

But I wish they went with yellow boots and yellow lightning for this version of The Flash. The blue lighting looks ridiculously overblown and excessive
Blue lightning does not match at all. I don't get it.

Red, yellow, even white would've meshed well.

*Waits for you're nitpicking about blue lightning complaints*

Why do you want ppl to all agree to hold back their opinions?

If they don't like a casting they can voice that. The movie will either prove them wrong or right.

I find it a contradiction you're already announcing ppl are wrong about everybody else like you saw JL already. Perhaps take the opposite of your advice and not praise a casting choice as a success off of a trailer.

If the message is to not assume and make declarations before seeing the movie it should work both ways not just one way So you don't have to read ppl ions you don't like.
