If Syracuse doesn't let up, this game is over. They are running away with it now.

14-2 run.

This guy Foote is really annoying me.

Is he supposed to be their tough guy?

I'm liking Triche the more I see him.

Triche is a SG not a PG from what I have seen so far. Scoop distributes the ball better but Triche is a much better scorer.

Yep. Just as Scoop throws that sweet lob to Kris from like halfcourt.

But the thing is, Triche can acquire those distribution skills over time.

Scoop on the other hand, can't just simply acquire the type of natural scoring skill that Triche seems to possess.

Agreed. Plus with him and Jardine running things next year he'll have the rock in his hands more and will have no choice but to acquire thoseskills.

5-0

Let's hope he (Triche) doesn't get too good too fast.

Cuz if so, you know he's out.

Wanted a 20 point win. But hey....

[h1]Mookie Jones leaves bench during second half[/h1] [h4]By Donna Ditota/The Post-Standard[/h4] [h5]November 25, 2009, 12:09AM[/h5]
Syracuse -- With more than five minutes left in Tuesday's game, Mookie Jones sat on the SU bench. SU coach Jim Boeheim approached him, spoke with him and walked away. Moments later, Jones stood up, walked the length of the SU bench, stripped off his headband and disappeared into the tunnel that leads to the Orange locker room.

With about 3 ½ minutes left to play, SU athletic trainer Brad Pike and SU's coordinator of player development Lazarus Sims also disappeared into the tunnel. Pike quickly returned. With about 90 seconds left in the game, Jones and Sims reappeared. Jones did not play and was not at his locker when reporters were allowed into the postgame SU locker room.

When asked what happened with Jones, Boeheim said "nothing."

Mookie should have had an idea that this would have happened if he came here. I have no idea what is going on at practice but if he is not playinghard there then he definitely won't be seeing the court. Jones may have worn a Syracuse uniform for the last time last night.

Four Sign NLI's With Syracuse

Four Sign Men's Basketball Letters-of-Intent With Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y- Syracuse head men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim has announced that C.J. Fair, Baye Moussa Keita, Fabricio (Fab) de Melo, and Dion Waiters have signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) to play for the Orange next season.

Fair, a Baltimore product who attends Brewster Academy (N.H.), is a 6-8 forward. He is rated the 45[sup]th[/sup]-best prospect in the Class of 2010 by Rivals.com, 48[sup]th[/sup] by Scout.com and 59[sup]th[/sup] by ESPNU. Fair began his high-school career at Baltimore City College. As a sophomore, he earned All-Metro honors after helping his squad to the state semifinals. Fair averaged 20.3 points and six rebounds per outing. Fair was slowed during his junior campaign by knee surgery he had during the summer. He played AAU with the Baltimore Stars, coached by Duane Davis.

Keita is enrolled at Oak Hill Academy (Va.), where he plays for veteran Coach Steve Smith. He is a 6-10 forward who is from Senegal. Following his sophomore season, he participated in the Jordan Brand Classic's International Game at Madison Square Garden and the Nike Global Challenge in Portland. He is rated the 19[sup]th[/sup]-best center by Scout.com.

A number of other former SU players, including Carmelo Anthony and Eric Devendorf, competed at Oak Hill Academy.

de Melo, a 7-0, 267-pound center, is a native of Brazil who is attending Sagemont (Fla.) High School. He is ranked fifth overall and second among centers in the Class of 2010 according to Rivals.com. Scout.com has de Melo rated 25[sup]th[/sup] overall and third among centers. The ESPNU ratings had him 20[sup]th[/sup] overall and second among centers. His high school coach is Adam Ross. de Melo did not start playing basketball competitively until the ninth grade. He was a member of the Brazilian 17-and-under national team. He transferred into the Florida High School Athletic Association a year ago and had to sit out a season. He is eligible this winter. de Melo participated at the King James Classic last spring with the AAU Florida Rams. He earned first-team honors at the NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp conducted at the University of Virginia.

Waiters is a 6-3 guard at Life Center Academy (N.J.) and the cousin of current Syracuse performer Scoop Jardine. He attended South Kent School (Conn.) for one year before enrolling at Life Center Academy. Waiters missed his junior campaign with an ankle injury. He is listed as the 14[sup]th[/sup]-best recruit and the third-best shooting guard in the Class of 2010 by ESPNU. Waiters is also ranked 18[sup]th[/sup] overall and fifth among shooting guards by Scout.com and 29[sup]th[/sup] by Rivals.com. Waiters participated in the LeBron James Skills Academy during the summer.

ESPN's Scout Inc. rated the Syracuse class as the fourth-best in the nation behind Memphis, Ohio State and North Carolina. Scout.com also ranked the Syracuse class fourth overall.

The National Letter-of-Intent program was started in 1964. Administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA), the program was designed with prospective student-athletes in mind. A signed letter-of-intent indicates a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the designated college or university for one academic year. Institutions agree to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year to the student-athlete, provided the student-athlete is admitted to the institution and is eligible for financial aid under NCAA rules.

Good looks... The recruits sound very promising.

Cuse looking to finally become a major player in national bball.

Mookie with 14 points. If he shows up in practice instead of *****ing on the bench, he'll play more. He also needs to get rid of his girlfriend. She is nogood (I actually know her). Overall very solid game from the Orange. They were forcing it in the beginning and some sloppy play in the first half kept the ballgame too close but once the second half began, they asserted their dominance and ran away with it. This team has been legit thus far and scares me. Hopefullywe don't reach our peak too early. We are going to have to save this for when we play Florida until the season ends.

[h1]Mookie Jones explains his Tuesday exit; pours in 12 points vs. Columbia[/h1] [h4]By Donna Ditota/The Post-Standard[/h4] [h5]November 27, 2009, 10:47PM[/h5]

Mookie Jones (right) and James Southerland scramble with Columbia's Mark Cisco for a loose ball.
Scoop Jardine delivered the ball to Mookie Jones near the top of the arc in Friday night's game in the Carrier Dome. Jones caught it, then released a jump shot that fluttered through the net.

That 3-pointer boosted Syracuse's lead to 55-30 over Columbia and prompted Lions coach Joe Jones to call time-out.

As Jardine and Jones trotted to the SU huddle, Jardine reached over and rubbed Jones' head. The gesture, one of several of support for the Orange guard, came at the start of a 12-point flourish for Jones in the game after he mysteriously left the SU bench toward the end of the Cornell game.

On Friday against Columbia, Jones made his first appearance with 4 minutes, 38 seconds left in the first half. SU led 31-20 at that point. Over the course of the 14 minutes Jones played, he took five shots - all from beyond the 3-point arc - and made four of them. He also registered one assist and two rebounds.

"When I got out there, I was more mad," Jones said. "I'm like, 'I belong out here. Let me show everybody. Let everybody feel my pain and anger out here.' It was pressure. I'm pretty sure everybody saw me the other night, my actions that night. So I felt like I just had to go out and play my game. Relax. I was very relaxed and very confident out there."

"I'm very proud of him," Jardine said. "Because he went through a tough three days. Mookie was a highly (touted) guy coming out of high school. When you don't live up to that as a player, it's kind of tough for you. When you kinda don't know where you stand. Because you're working hard and you don't get results. I just told him, 'Keep your head.' He's still a freshman. I was just happy for him today."

SU coach Jim Boeheim did not address what words were spoken between himself and Jones on the Orange bench the other night. To be fair, nobody specifically asked him about that conversation.

Whatever was said, Jones rose from the SU bench, walked the length of it, stripped off his headband and tossed it to the Carrier Dome floor before disappearing into the tunnel that leads to the Orange locker room. He stayed for about three game minutes and re-appeared with about 90 seconds left in the game with SU's Coordinator of Player Development Lazarus Sims.

"It was a little painful," Jones said. "I was here all summer working on my game. Sometimes I get a little frustrated. I handled it in a bad way by walking off the floor. I turned my back on my team. But I came back out and showed good sportsmanship in a way.

"But it's been painful. I just played in Madison Square Garden, the California game. Got in early the North Carolina game. Thought I was off to a better start. I guess I kinda jumped the gun. I saw like the last five minutes (of the Cornell game) and kind of felt, like, disrespected in a way. So I wasn't really feeling it. But I just gotta build confidence in Coach, show him that I can be out there and that I can play."

Jardine said he'd spoken with Jones several times since Tuesday's Cornell game and counseled him to "keep your head, man." The Orange, Jardine pointed out, had played just five games. Many games and many chances awaited.

Jones said he and Boeheim spoke after the incident and aired any grievances.

"Yeah, we had a talk. Obviously, I'm not all the way there yet," Jones said. "I have things to work on, like my defense, which I agree on. And a couple other things. For Coach, whatever it is. I love Syracuse. I love what he's doing. I just gotta prove myself and work. Keep working. I ain't gonna give up."

"He's a good shooter. We just want to get him some opportunities," Boeheim said. "Defensively is a big key. His defense is getting better. He's got to do a good job there and then he'll get opportunities. He gets shots. He gets himself in position on the offensive end very well."

Jones said part of his frustration earlier this week stemmed from the work he'd put in over the summer. He stayed in Syracuse for six months, he said, trying to shed some of the 240 pounds he'd accumulated since the hip surgery that allowed him a medical hardship waiver for last year. He's arrived early at SU practices, working with assistant coach Mike Hopkins to curl off screens and get his shot, to practice some of the things Orange coaches have asked of him.

Against Columbia, he smoothly stroked four 3-pointers. After one of them, Wes Johnson rose from the SU bench to shout something at Jones and Jones nodded his head and raised his hands.

"I said, 'You have fun,'" Johnson said. "I told him, if you get out there and you have a shot, take it. And he looked at me like, 'All right, I got you.' After that, he was rolling."

Jones said his teammates had offered support over the past few days. He acknowledged plenty of people talked to him and about him after Tuesday's incident. He knew, he said, that by entering Friday's game, he invited extra scrutiny.

Jones said he had no intention of giving up.

"I'm here," he said. "I'm working every day. I'm gonna be at practice early working on my game. Trying to work on everything Coach says I need to improve on. Whatever it is he told me to do, I'm gonna do it. That's why I'm here. I'm here to play. I'm not here to sit on the bench. I just gotta prove myself."

Had that been Paul Harris he would have been kicked off of the team.

Syracuse and Florida each lost their leading scorer from last season to the pros, but each team is 8-0 regardless.
The seventh-ranked Orange will leave the state of New York for the first time in 2009-10 to meet the No. 10 Gators on Thursday night at the St. Pete Times Forum in the SEC/Big East Invitational.

Syracuse and Florida both featured high-scoring sophomore point guards a season ago, but neither of those players is back. Former Orange star Jonny Flynn was taken sixth overall by Minnesota in the NBA draft, while Gators guard Nick Calathes also turned pro and is playing in Greece.

The clubs haven't missed a beat, with Syracuse trying for its second straight 9-0 start and Florida off to its best start since going 17-0 en route to the 2005 NCAA title. Each has beaten a Top-10 opponent, with the Orange defeating then-No. 6 North Carolina on Nov. 20 and the Gators edging then-No. 2 Michigan State on Nov. 27.

"Florida is very good," Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said. "I think they're really a much better team than they were last year. They were right on the edge of the NCAA and they're a much different team."

The Orange beat the Gators 89-83 last season in Kansas City in the semifinals of the CBE Classic. Calathes had 19 points and Flynn had 18 to nearly cancel each other, but the key to Syracuse's victory may have been Andy Rautins' five 3-pointers off the bench.

Now a starter, Rautins is shooting 51.1 percent on 3-pointers. The Orange have replaced Flynn's scoring with Iowa State transfer Wesley Johnson, who is averaging a team-high 17.0 points.

Five Syracuse players are averaging at least nine.

"It is going to be key for us to keep playing unselfish," said Rautins, who needs one 3-pointer to tie Eric Devendorf for third all-time at Syracuse with 208. "We know that Florida is a physical, athletic team and they are going to get up and down the floor. We have to get back in transition and rebound the ball well."

The Gators allowed Syracuse to shoot 51.7 percent in last season's matchup, but seem to have a better defense in 2009-10. Florida's opponents are shooting 38.7 percent.

"Our No. 1 priority this year is going to be defense," Gators guard Erving Walker said. "We know you cannot shoot the ball well every night and we want to stay in games with defense. Of course, everybody wants to shoot the ball well, and when it's going in, that feels nice."

Florida also has a newcomer as its leading scorer in Kenny Boynton, a freshman averaging 13.9 points despite a 37.8 field-goal percentage. Boynton had 15 points last Friday in an 85-67 win at Jacksonville.

The Gators are 15-7 against teams from the Big East under coach Billy Donovan, including a 73-58 win over Rutgers on Nov. 28. They'll be buoyed by the partisan crowd at the St. Pete Times Forum, where they are 4-2 all-time.

Syracuse traditionally plays most of its pre-Big East games close to campus - with six at home and two at Madison Square Garden this season - but feels ready for this road trip.

"We know that they are a good team," sophomore forward Kris Joseph said. "We're going to go down to Florida and just play hard and concentrate on defense."

Let's hope the Big East Rookie of the Week, Triche can continue to make strides.

Big test tonight.

[h1]Syracuse hits big shots to stave off St. Bonaventure[/h1] [h4]By Mike Waters / The Post-Standard[/h4] [h5]December 19, 2009, 10:59PM[/h5]

Lauren Long / The Post-StandardSyracuse's Brandon Triche is fouled by St. Bonaventure's Jonathan Hall while driving to the hoop during the second half.

Syracuse -- They swing the momentum. They energize the crowd. They are daggers.

They are the 3-point shots that erase deficits in the blink of an eye or turn tight games into easy victories.

The Syracuse Orange used a pair of threes from both Brandon Triche and Andy Rautins to turn back a feisty St. Bonaventure squad for an 85-72 victory in front of 20, 578 fans at the Carrier Dome Saturday night.

The old Syracuse-St. Bonaventure rivalry, which has been fairly dormant since its heyday back in the 1970s, flamed anew on Saturday.

The Bonnies led the Orange, 35-32, with less than four minutes remaining the first half to the delight of a large; and vocal, contingent of Bonaventure fans.

Syracuse took over the game with a 21-4 run that spanned the halftime break. Syracuse freshman Brandon Triche highlighted the spurt with consecutive 3-pointers that gave the Orange a 51-39 advantage at the 15:36 mark of the second half.

Dagger. Dagger.

"That's the sign of a good team,'' St. Bonaventure coach Mark Schmidt. "That's why they're one of the top five teams in the country.''

The Orange eventually extended its lead to 16 points. When St. Bonaventure closed to within nine points with just under 10 minutes remaining, Syracuse senior Andy Rautins drained back-to-back 3-pointers for a 69-54 lead.

Dagger. Dagger.

"The game was going back and forth like a dogfight,'' Syracuse junior Wes Johnson said. "Then Brandon came up and hit a three. Then Andy came up and hit a three. That got the fans into it and got us going. That really gave us the spark we needed.''

The 5th-ranked Orange improved to 11-0, marking its best start to a season since the 1999-2000 team won its first 19 games.

In its 11-0 start to the season, Syracuse has made a habit of producing big plays in big moments.

"Different guys step up every game,'' Rautins said. "That's what makes our team special. St. Bonaventure's a good team. They're going to win some games this year. They played us pretty tough defensively, but we were able to break it open with a couple key shots. Brandon's pull-up was big and then Kris Joseph set a great screen for me and freed me up.

"That's what this team does,'' Rautins added. "We make plays and we win games.''

The big shots from Triche and Rautins helped Syracuse overcome a sluggish start. The Bonnies (6-4) took advantage of Syracuse's nine first-half turnovers and out-rebounded the Orange 19 to 17 in the opening half.

"This game during exams is always difficult,'' SU coach Jim Boeheim said. "I just didn't think we had the quickness defensively that we have had. Offensively, we played very well when we didn't turn it over. We just made some really, really bad turnovers tonight.''

Syracuse also had to play most of the game without starting center Arinze Onuaku, who suffered a bruised thigh early in the game. He tried to return later in the first half, but he remained on the bench for the entire second half.

In Onuaku's absence, Syracuse got strong performances from Rick Jackson, who moved from forward to center and produced 18 points and 10 rebounds; and sophomore Kris Joseph, who had 17 points and seven boards in 33 minutes off the bench.

"I thought Ricky did a great job in the middle,'' Boeheim said. "He did a really big-time job in the middle.''

Still, Syracuse had to hit some big shots to shake off the pesky Bonnies and neither Triche or Rautins had showed any signs of being ready to make them.

Triche had missed his only two field goal attempts prior to his back-to-back treys. In addition, he had missed a pair of free throws just minutes before his pair of threes.

"He's mature, he's poised and he plays within himself,'' Johnson said. "He missed those two free throws and he came back out and hit two big threes. He's very mature.''

Rautins had scored just five points, making only two out of five attempts, in the game's first 30 minutes.

"If you miss a couple shots, it's not going to stop you from taking a couple more open looks,'' Rautins said. "You've got to take your shots when you get them. That's what we did. We got open looks.''

Any hopes that St. Bonaventure still had of pulling off the upset faded with 8:29 remaining in the game when sophomore center Andrew Nicholson was ejected for committing a flagrant foul. Nicholson hit Rautins in the groin as he brushed by the Syracuse guard.

Rautins slumped to the court and then rolled over to point at Nicholson. The referees threw Nicholson, who led the Bonnies with 18 points, out of the game after reviewing the replay.

Rautins felt certain that Nicholson's fist was intentional.

"No question. He hit me before,'' Rautins said. "He hit me two plays before that. He came down and hit me with an elbow. I let that one slide. Then he came down again after I hit the shot and he hit me square in that region. I knew it was intentional after that point.''

St. Bonaventure would not threaten again. Syracuse's record would remain unblemished. The Orange now has just one more game remaining before the start of Big East play on Dec. 29 at Seton Hall as it hosts Oakland on Tuesday.

"We've got one more game to take care of against Oakland,'' Rautins said. "We know they're going to be a good team. We can't look past anybody.''
