I think the defense will improve as they get better with the offense.
They're playing well, but that doesn't mean they won't get better on offense.. When they figure out the offense completely it will be second nature, and the defense SHOULD get better

You have to take into account that if you play uptempo, that means the other team is going to have more opportunities to score. Granted, you'd like the Lakers to just plain stop them each time, its probably not going to happen, these are NBA teams, they'll get their points. Uptempo game means just more shots, and more likely than not they probably will score.
With that said, the defense does need to improve but that will come with more continuity, I hope at least.
