Destiny Thread (Bungie) - 9/9/14

yeah at the end of the day, DLC is here to stay.  The thing that needs to go away is microtransactions.  Dude in the FIFA thread said he spent ~$500 from FIFA 12-14...

You gotta admit though, the Dark Below content is not really all that amazing and feels like it was already finished when the game originally launched but purposely held back for DLC. It's just a re-hash of everything we've already had access to. Yeah, you can now go a few new places that you couldn't before, but what I expect of some DLC in this game is an entirely new planet.

A new raid is worth $15 to me but the rest of it is really underwhelming.

Bet I can name at LEAST 10 things you guys easily blow $20 on probably weekly but yet you talking about this. Like I asked someone before....you ever buy a CoD or Battlefield map pack?

Hell this is a Nike sneaker forum where we all ended up here because we have one thing in common.....we all spend entirely too much $$ on sneakers for a good portion of our teenage/young adult years and we like to discuss them together

I better not see any of you guys with any current pair of Kobes, KDs, Jordans, Lebrons, Timberlands, or *insert other brand here* but in here crying about $35 for 2 DLC downloads for a game....

We have known about the DLC since before the game came out.....you could have saved $.50 a day and had enough to purchase the damn thing for crying out loud

The money isn't the point though. For instance, CoD/BF map packs add to the game, and you can play on regardless without them in the same modes you were playing before. Planned obsolescence has been in the game industry for a long time, but it only ever applied to a new game replacing the old game a year or more later. For a DLC to annul content in the game it's supposed to "add on" to is really strange. Don't become too accepting of this behaviour from game studios or you'll inevitably see it more often.

I just have a Warlock at 23, kinda losing interest now. How are ya'll getting to the 30's? Are ya'll just grinding in Crucible matches? I'm always getting my *** kicked during matches because my armor sucks AND its hard to kill ya'll cats in the 30's :lol

Armor in Crucible is standardized, only in Iron Banner does it matter.

Just keep grinding.. Level up your Vanguard if you suck in Crucible, easiest way to get Legendary Gear to get you to a level 31.

Not accepting it, but it is inevitable whether you like it or not. Just like you pay for cellular data now and getting people off of grandfathered unlimited plans. Just like net neutrality and the big names paying for more of the pie than the smaller guys. Same thing with the inevitable charging for data on a cable plan I can bet will happen in the future too. "Oh you are using the largest chunk of data in your neighborhood to play games, stream twitch/YouTube/Netflix/Hulu/etc? Here is our high usage/streaming plan tailored to high end users like yourself"

.

They are going to capitalize and make money on anything that they can they will. Don't get me wrong, I have download apps and when they get to the point where they are useless unless you buy the premium, I delete the app. I do not like it in the slightest. I will admit though, I have paid 1.99 and 2.99 a couple times in games for certain things.

I would say BF adds slightly more content to their games than CoD. Especially with CoD when half of the maps they are bringing out are revamped maps that they already released on an older game they are "crowd favorites".

I believe that they said it will rotate every couple of week as far as the weekly strikes go. This week you were locked out, sure. But it was the launch of new DLC. You could do everything except run the weekly strike/nightfall. Tomorrow it will go back to normal and you can still quest and play crucible and level to 31 with the level cap increase. If those videos had never surfaced of people somehow finding zones and maps "locked" and on the disc already people would not be complaining and using that as their argument like they are now. Question is, before twitter, FB, YT, etc as big as they are now.....how do you know developers weren't already doing this and it just wasn't broadcasted on the scale it is now?

Get reputation up and buy higher light level gear and then went to the raid for high end armor. If you do not want to raid, Iron Banner starts tomorrow and you can probably use that armor to get to at least level 31.

What is it that you can buy in FIFA? Special teams/players or something?

I will say though that those are the people that things like this are catered too. These people and the kids that get their parents to buy anything that they want. Or the ones that say "this is the only game I play, so I am actually saving $$ buy just buying a few add-ons and playing this. It's not like I am buying an entirely new game."

That is how me and some of my friends used to justify paying $15/month to play WoW. This is the only game I play, so I am saving money since I am not out there spending $40-60 on a game every month or every 2 months.

You know I was still buying games and game systems too even though we were saying this

makes me think of that freemium south park episode

Sorry if posted already, but Iron Banner is back tomorrow and someone on twitter said the rumor is that you can get to lvl 32 via Iron Banner!?!??

They won't allow that. Next IB, which will probably be closer to the release of next expansion, will release the 36 light gear. I mean I'll eat my words, but they are trying to help get people ready for normal crota with this. Not to actually be a substitute for Crota gear.

I think it'll be 33 light gear.

Doubt it, but who knows.. If the pattern continues.. then it should be alternative +33 Light Gear (level 31 gear), then the next Iron Banner event should be level 32 gear.

They did fools dirty with Iron Banner tho.

Make you GRIND for a week straight just to give 33 light gear away two weeks later. What sucks is the iron banner gear actually looks dope AF.

Not really, it's a way to differentiate the more hardcore player versus the casual. Nothing wrong with that.

Yo my Destiny aficionados what is the fastest way to level up an alt character. Finally decided to do my first one with finals being over and create a warlock. Just looking for some tips
