[Discussion] Downsizing/Minimizing Sneaker Collection or Quitting Collecting + TIPS/RESOURCES VOL. STAY STRONG FROM BLACK FRIDAY!

These Black/Cement 3s will be a big test.

I first bought these in 2001 and remember being like the 4th person in line after pulling up a little before 7am. Back then it was the same 6-7 people you'd see at every release. The stores had like 2 size runs and THAT WAS IT. They sold out immediately. As we were walking out with our pairs a whole basketball team showed up to get them and they were already gone. One of the few shoes I wore until the soles came wore off.

Peep the NT WDYWT pic from 2005!

I copped the 2018 pair and they are still in good shape. My gut tells me to try for these this year but honestly.. I'm passing. It's a Top 5 for me all time. But I'm over it.

I’m in the same boat.

BC3 & BC4 are my favorite Jordans of all time all time.

Didn’t try for the reimagined IV (leather upper ), but even it was the proper nubuck I wound have still passed.

Passing on the III’s as well.

love my leather 4s.. glad i doubled on those.

Debating going for the 3's cause I've never hit on them. I believe my package got stolen in 2018 at the postal distribution centre (last tracking location).
Entered some IG raffles, so maybe if I win the raffle lol. They are also almost $300 CAD before tax...

Always preferred white cement 3s over black cements. Even sold my 2018 pair of black cements for that reason. With that said, I have no self control, and will be trying to buy black cements on Saturday.

Been meaning to sell pairs, but the way the market is currently, it’s really tough to move anything unless you’re basically giving it away. Hoping the market comes back a bit soon, so I can actually make a few bucks to offset buying. This year I’ve sold 14 pairs, and bought 30. I gotta do better, bros.

Y’all should consider watching talks with TJ on YouTube if you don’t already. Really puts things into perspective.

I'm finding a lot of joy in circling through the pairs that I do have. Really trying to break the consumerism cycle.

Looking forward to this documentary as well, which is right on time for Black Friday.

Only a half hour in (55 mins left) into "Buy Now" and while I was hoping it would be good, it's not that great for people like us.

Maybe if you're new to everything, it's worth a watch. Otherwise it's (again, only 30 mins in) stuff you already know. Planned obsolescence, companies not wanting you to repair products but instead buy new, companies with employees and consultants whose job it is to study in great detail what consumers do and don't like, to try to monetize every single breath you take, companies causing tons of waste, etc.

None of that is new for most of us and while I'm happy there is another piece of media that hammers these issues home, nothing about the presentation is well done.

Just hitting the "trashwalker" portion. Used to know someone in the 80s who went around "trashwalking" and picking up people's refuse and trying to sell it. In the 80s. It's interesting to see people talking about corporate waste and making sure items weren't usable (so slashing purses or bags, wrecking perfectly good food, etc).

Still watching. Hopefully they get to a part where they are directly interviewing people responsible

I've bought 10 pairs in the past 8 months but only bought 2 pairs in the past 6 years prior to this spree I've gone on. Just have a few more pairs on my list that I want to buy and then I'm good for a while. Hopefully

Any backstory to why Joe La Puma wears all black shoes? That's where I'm at in life now.

What’s your reason? I’m assuming just the ease of cleaning, hard to scuff, and don’t have to think of matching?

I try sticking to buying just triple black so I don't go out and by every damn colorway of a particular shoe.:emoji_tired_face:

Yeah the focus of the documentary is more environmental than financial, but still a good one nonetheless. I think it's perfect for those planning t reup on Jordans they already own. IF your 2018 of BCIII's is still good, do you really need this one coming up? Just going to create more waste unless you truly know who you're going to give them to.

Part of all of this is the rush of getting them. When you hit you get a rush of adrenaline. That's what you're chasing most of the time. If they made an announcement that they are making 3 million pairs of the BC3 the excitement of buying them will disappear.

Bought the Black cements.
First pair ever. If they pass my standards/inspection, I will keep them and retire until I need to replace shoes (unless a pair of chicagos 1's release again lol).

Saga with the black cements

Hit on shock drop but returned pair cause of large glue stain on the elephant print toe

Hit a pair off SNKRS. Shoes were just delivered and woof, QC issues. Faded elephant print, glue stain on elephant print, left shoe looks to have different leather. Shoes will also be returned.

In all honesty, I’m not even tripping. Back then I would’ve got zero sleep until I found another pair. Now I’m like whatever. I can do without these. Just can’t justify spending $220+ on something with QC issues.

Anybody know when Stockx is likely to have the next day or two with no fees for selling? I think I'm going to try to move a good 5 or 6 pairs.

Took everything in my power not to cop the Adidas Fear of God Basketball 1s for $100, but I made a promise and must be a man of my word. I said I'm not buying anymore sneakers until I pay off all my debts (besides my mortgage). I'll keep you guys posted on the journey. I will be honest if I break (right now I'm at 1 year of no purchases), my only exception will be if my wife is making us take matching pictures with the kiddos, then I might have to do that daddy outfit thing.

Haven't purchased anything for Black Friday either. I really am trying to break the spending habit in general. Just because I have the money, doesn't mean I have to part ways with it purchasing something. Gotta get my wife on board, but as many may know, that's an even tougher challenge. Gotta lead by example though, so hopefully she'll follow suit sooner or later.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Truly thankful for those in this thread who are trying to be better and giving tips.

Keep it up! Those Black Friday deals are so tempting, but I too have been trying to reason my way out of those temptations.

I had to hop back in to remind myself of all this. Never easy and will have my moments of temptations like right now. Unsubbing from these damn emails, which is also just beneficial from an organizational standpoint.
