Disneyland adds skywalk to new parking garage

One of the tricks to navigating the Disneyland Resort when it's busy (which is almost all the time) is to walk between the Mickey and Friends parking structure and the parks, rather than wait for the trams.

Granted, this assumes that you are physically up for the approximately one-mile walk. But with many people able to make that walk in about 20 minutes, the journey through Downtown Disney can save you time over what often can be a longer wait for the trams.

The construction of Disneyland's new parking structure next door to Mickey and Friends has complicated this strategy, as the walking route to the parks has changed several times during the construction. But once the new garage is finished, walking to the parks should be even easier, thanks to Disney's announcement today that it is adding an elevated pedestrian walkway over Magic Way.

The skywalk will keep pedestrians safely off the street while avoiding the wait to cross Magic Way at the Downtown Disney surface parking entrance, which should shave a little time from the journey, too.

The addition of the 6,500-space parking garage will provide a net gain of several thousand parking spaces at the resort when it opens next year, hopefully alleviating some of the expected crush of fans when the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge land opens next summer. The completion of the construction project also should restore some capacity to Mickey and Friends, which has been filling on an almost daily basis over the past weeks.

This is needed

i've accepted the fact that i might have to pay a separate ticket just to enter SWGE next year

really gon' try and go to SW night next year though, tix probably go with quickness too just from what i've been seeing for that land, gon' have to make sure that early AP ticket purchase be put to good use

ive NEVER parked in mickey and friends lot
and maaaaan idk about paying extra for star wars
i dont even like star wars like that

its likely just for early access which I wouldn't mind at this point if I can avoid elbow to elbow crowd

best way to get in there is in an event like SW night which shouldn't be too bad if you're already attending other night events like the current Halloween Party unless they double/triple the price

i don't know how yall in the bay area do it, drive a couple of hours, walk around the park and then make a couple more of hours drive back? when i go i usually stay until closing to avoid the traffic but even then i have to pump myself up with caffeine before getting on the road and that's only a 30-40 minute drive by then :lol

Sheet, I've about two hours east of the bay in northern ca and it takes about 7 hours to get there. I gotta have at least three days of park time to make it worth driving on the 5.

me and my lady actually stopped driving from SF for disneyland trips. the traffic was just getting to be too much. especially when i can get a round trip ticket for about $100. plus by flying we get extra time at the park that would have been spent driving

We thought about flying, but with three kids, Double stroller and all our junk, it just isn't feasible. I kind enjoy the drive till the 5, though. It's part of the journey.

that means you got to dress up as mr incredible

You would think right??? But my son requested me to be Fro-Zone. Lol. Cop’d the costume a month ago but I’m not wearing it to Disneyland. Gonna wear it on actual Halloween when we go trick or treating. Wife was gonna be Edna Mode but the costume was too hot and no breathability so she’ll just be wearing an Incredibles tee.

I’ve only did a turn around twice
Once to Disneyland
And once to magic mountain
Other than that I’m always there
3 days at least

Yeah that drive be cool to me
I stop in kettleman to refuel on gas
Where the in n out is
That’s my only stop
Well sometimes on the way back we hit up the outlet
But that drive be chill
Throw on podcasts and we good
Kids be having their iPods and 3ds or switch
And be chillin

Highway 5 be chill
Only time there’s issues
Is if there’s an accident and they close a lane
Or like during the SoCal fire
We was on our way back when it started
Took us 10 hours to get home
When normally it’s 5
But other than that the drive be cool
Sometimes I take the impala
Others I take the challenger
We be flying down 5 when I take da hemi :lol

awesome

enjoy!

you got one of those magicbands?

Yeah, we got the magic bands. I wish Disneyland adopted this system, so much easier. Also wish I could tie my card to it but it looks like it’s only for people that stay at a Disney hotel

I was expecting a little more from pandora. The flight of passage was cool but the river ride was ehhh
