Describe mediocre. I'm not doubting I just want in depth analysis so I know not to waste my money on that hotel in the future.

The rooms look the same as those in an average hotel. There's nothing really special about them.
With that said, it may be worth it to some since the parks are so close.

I'm actually thinking of staying at a hotel near Disneyland when I do the 10k and Half Marathon on November.
Even though I am only about an hour drive, I'd rather not drive back and forth from picking the packet on Friday and going to Disneyland/DCA, 10k on Saturday and then Half Marathon on Sunday.
Which hotels do you guys recommend? Motels probably a better choice but I think I'd prefer it to be walking distance.

I'm not sure they still have but I believe Red Lion was having a discounted rate last week. It's like 2 blocks from DL.

Tropicana Inn is right across the street from what I can remember.

Best Western is my top pick. Its right behind Captain Kidd's.. Literally across the main gate. Followed by Marriott Fairfield Inn... Behind McD. Ho Jo is a good pick too. I felt that Red Lion is kinda far compared to those places.

Use that at the Aulani resort in Hawaii. Went the past two years, all expenses paid through someone with DVC and had a blast both times.

There is a monsters inc ride at California that some people don't even know it exists, Line is short if you go before lunch.
And the buzz light year Astro blaster, line is short at the time of closing of the park at Disneyland, like no line at all. This should really be your last ride you get on.
I got a two year old myself, he will remember.
Since your main focus is for your kid., I suggest doing all the fantasyland rides first. Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Snow White, etc. those lines are really short when the park opens. If you wait until say a little after lunch. It goes from a 5 minute standby time to a 1 hour standby time.

Favorite attraction in CA,
wish Pixar took more of this angle with their attractions, not necessarily the shooting of things, but the 3D aspect. Like they need to revamp the Monsters Inc. ride into a 3d immersion, story where you get to tour "Monsters Inc" and somehow you end up on the doors with Randall chasing you, then Mike and Sully could come to the rescue, that'd be such a cool ride to do. Or like an UP ride where your in the house and take a tour of that world.

Lunch is semi casual. Jeans, polo shirt is OK. No tanks, dukes of the sort.
Dinner is more formal. Slacks, dress shirt.

The last time we had dinner there, I brought a change of clothes in a bag. Put it in a locker and was all good.
Food wise, it's pretty good. Not mind blowing, but above average considering what you can get in the park. The service and the cocktails is the shining stars. (IMO) Oh, and the souvenirs in the China hutch!

He's a snip of the dress code from an old confirmation letter I got a while back.
Dress Code: For lunch, guests may come in fashionable casual attire in order to enjoy the Disneyland Resort in comfort. However, no tank tops, cutoffs, swimsuits, bare midriffs, sweatpants, flip flops/sandals or beachwear may be worn. Walking length shorts are acceptable. Jeans are acceptable, provided that they cover undergarments completely and are not extremely faded or torn. For dinner, evening casual attire is acceptable. For gentlemen, collared shirts (even polo shirts) and slacks are appropriate, and for ladies an informal dress or pants with a blouse are appropriate. Dark blue and black jeans are acceptable for dinner as long as they are not faded or torn. PLEASE NOTE: Shorts are not permissible for dinner.
