Ah the annual J.R. Smith thread.
It just made it in this year.

Already had the Melo thread a few weeks back, the quarterly Kobe thread is now up and LBJ reached his quota during the summer.

greatest shooter of all time compared to a street baller that cant play D? :{

exactly this.. JR could've been special if he had a right head on his shoulders.. and ray allen is a class act on his own.. smart player, greatest shooter of all time

A street baller? WUT?

As many have alluded to already, JR doesn't have the basketball IQ to be Ray, nor does he have the work ethic. Looks like his work ethic has improved, though.

If you mean a player who once had hair and now doesn't than yeah, maybe......get your wierd hair fetishes out of here OP

IMO...not a chance...Ray Allen is a Hall of Famer. JR would be lucky to get on the ballot by the time his career is over. He is more slightly more athletic than Ray Allen but his jumper has never been as wet, his Bball IQ is way below Ray's, nor has he ever been a team leader.

Back in his younger days, Ray was the man on those seattle and milwaukee squads he played on. He made the eastern conference finals with the bucks (lost to AI and the sixers). With the Sonics he would not only get buckets he would typically guard the other teams best player. He and Kobe had some hate filled battles on the court. Lastly we all know what he did as a celtic.

Not even a comparison in my mind.

Im a knick fan and been a JR fan even before he became a knick

The only thing jr and ray have in common is that they play the 2. Their games are completely different and JR is never gunna reach the potential he came into the league with. He's still been really good for the Knicks this year and it's clear that Woodson has figured out how to get through to him. I'm extremely happy to have him on the knicks for the salary he took.

To say JR doesn't play d though is basically saying you don't watch the nba. Dudes defense is AT LEAST average for starting 2s. He occasionally gets too aggressive and gets called for a dumb foul but nobody complains because they see him working hard on that end most nights. Dudes got pretty good hands on defense too.

Who comes up with a comparison like this?

I swear, some people wouldn't be able to make this type of thread up. Only on this message board.

JR has a lot of the tools needed to be successful, he just doesn't have the work ethic and IQ to be a Ray Allen. He is much more athletic and has a good stroke, but Ray clearly has put in the reps and time to get his game to where it was in his prime.

A lot of yall of knocking him because you don't like him as a person. Strictly talking about his game, any team would love to have him.

J.R. Smith can never be that consistent, but he's a sure starter on almost half of the teams in the NBA. Without a shadow of a doubt. Let him get a role like OJ Mayo has in Dallas and he could average 18+ a night..

He would average 20+ a night if you put him in OJ Mayo's place right now where he needs to be the #1 scorer. Not sure how many games that team would win.....but he would definitely put up buckets.

never will he be a shooter like ray allen. hes a streaky shooter. dont get me wrong he has potential to be a great player like ray allen but not a sharpshooter
