Downtown LA Bars/Club Scene Suggestions

I have a friend who is celebrating a birthday this weekend in Downtown LA, at the Standard Hotel I believe. 
Just wondering, if there were any other nice bars or clubs around the vicinity (to reduce drunk driving) that you guys can recommend.

villains is a nice spot. great drinks, kinda pricey but chill spot.
7 grand is popular
the edison is swank
standard rooftop

duno about clubs in downtown.....the above are all bars, unless u want j lounge for asian night.

Mas Malo

Also its 20 bucks to get on the rooftop bar after like 7pm at the standard if you dont have a room.
