police auctions are infact free. you can also find MANY car auctions thru car dealerships and otheravenues. my brother and I used www.bargain.com which charges a couple bucks for a listing of auction houses. it most certainly paid for itself...

dealer auction is manheim.com but you do need a dealer license to get into this auction

yes, well, I paid my dealer $200 to get in... still tho, good to get an infiniti g35 for $4k below MARKET VALUE.
 
The main thing to remember is to bring a mechanic with you, because all sales are final and sold as is.

If you know somebody with a dealer license you can get them for cheaper at the dealers auction than the police or public auctions.

Have a tow truck company ready because most auctions you have to move the car that day.

Have your insurance card so you can get temp plates.

Make sure you have extra money in case you have to pay taxes.

In MD, I think its just fill out an application and pay a fee. Everybody I know with a dealers license are just regular dudes who flip cars on the side. Itsnot like they own a dealership.
