Hello fellow flat footers. I recently started running and am in dire need of some shoes.
What shoes are you guys using? As of right now, I'm running on a pair on New Balance 574.
How are Nike Frees and Roshe for people like us? That's all I ever hear about, but don't know how well it would be.
Are there any shoes made specifically for those who are flat footed? Thanks.

my left foot is flat and my right foot is semi-normal but the arch still isn't that big. I swore by nike frees for the past 5 years of my running but as I began training for LA marathon, I bought a pair of Asics Gel Kayano 18's and it was pretty good with no special insole. I would suggest you go buy your shoes on www.runningwarehouse.com as they let you wear the pair for 90 days and you can return it if it doesn't work out for you. Frees are still good but I just needed a shoe with more support for long distance runs. 3 months ago I herniated my disc so not running right now due to sciatica and back pain but i definitely think you should explore some asics shoes.

I am very flat footed and run about 3 times per week. Always experienced foot pain during training, or if work involved standing for long periods. Even my most comfortable air maxes caused discomfort if I wore them for long periods. My whole world changed about 1 year ago when I first got orthotics. The othotic specialist recommended the Brooks Adrenline and Saucony Pro Guide 4 based on my foot type and gait analysis (I over pronate). Thank goodness my wife's benefits package allows me to get a new pair of othotics and a pair of shoes every year.

I'm extremely flat footed as well :smh: I have Nike Free 2's that I currently use but I feel like I need more support. I need to go to a running specialist store and have them analyze my feet and gait sometime, there's several places nearby where I live.

I'm so damn flat footed

I'm flat footed too, currently use flyknits and frees.

Ran 6 miles today. Feels good.

Check out a running shoe shop in your area. They can make much better recommendations once they analyze your gait, whether your feet pronate etc and can recommend a few pairs of shoes. It's mind boggling how many people buy running shoes based on how they look. Most shops like this have a 30 day return policy so you can run on whatever you buy and return them or exchange them for something else if you aren't satisfied.

I'm extremely flat footed, copped a pair of superfeet dmp, paired with my asic's, no more foot pain

Im flat footed but just always ignored it.

Does arch support do wonders? Cuz after hours playing ball my feet start hurting like none other

I run on the guide 5's and they are heaven.

Are there certain running stores to look out for? Not entirely sure if I've ever even seen one to be honest.
Also, what is gait and all the other terminology used?
And I didn't know tired achy feet were due to being flat footed. I always assumed everyone's feet hurt after some time.

Just look for a shop that specializes in running shoes. Search your area on yelp for running shoes and see what pops up. If you live in a big city chances are you'll find more than a few. Out here in LA there are several.

Frees are the complete opposite of what you're looking for if have a flat foot. You're going to need a shoe with a good arch support, as such I recommend the Asics Kayano 19. Many experts (including me) agree that Frees are not good to run in due to their lack of support. Walking is fine, but running, not so much.

Yeah, look on the medial side of the shoe and see if it has this grey area on the inside.

That grey area is the support for people with flat feet, low arches, and pronators that they need.
Gait is the complete transition from heel to toe.
Careful though, cuz it's harder to see in the new Kayano since they painted that grey area to match the midsole, but you'll find it because of the little dots.

flat footed people (overpronators)

you all need motion stabilizing shoes.

i use the brooks beast.

you are welcome.

Im flatfooted too,but my feet don't hurt after long periods, only my knees. Especially after playing ball or running.

Anyone know this feel??

Reezigs are the most comfy shoe I've ever worn.

flat feet are disgusting.

my friend got specials soles, they cost him like $130 and he just swaps them into whatever sneaker he's wearing.

Flat footed and bow legged (the outer portion of my heel wears out very fast) but foot /leg pain isn't my issue while running, it's respiratory /lung discomfort. I don't smoke and I'm in fairly good shape, i just need to run more often.

Fellow flat footer here, when I want to run I wear a pair of brooks beast 11's. They're an extremely comfortable shoe for people who have flat feet and have overpronation issues. This years model is the 12 I believe. You guys should def check them out if you cant find a shoe with enough support.

Free runs are horrible for overpronators as they offer very little support. When you take a free run you can easily bend it into a ball. I have flat feet and have custom orthotics that I throw into almost all my shoes. All my runners are neutral as the custom orthotics fix my biomechanics but if you just want to get a good pair of runners for your issues I would try some mizuno wave alchemys or the asics gel kayano 19. Mizunos run narrow though so you might have to go up .5

Damn, it feels good to know there's other people out there that feel your pain. Let's look on the bright side guys, if this country ever brought back the draft we would be exempt due to our "handicap." :smokin
