correct. Most of the time the "intent" is to "educate" unruly or "tyrant" police officers. It usually starts off with them filming gov't buildings or public property areas. Cops come and ask for i.d. and most of the videos escalate from there. The "auditors" try and explain that they are not committing any crime so the police don't have the authority to ask for their i.d.. They go on to call them tyrants or nazi's. Most of them are in it just to "educate" or put the officers in place and make them do a "walk of shame". Others are clearly in it for a settlement for unlawful arrest.
I was really into first amendment auditors when the pandemic jumped off simply out of boredom. I have honestly learned a lot about police interactions though. It's usually the same schtick with every cop. They demand the i.d. and get really irritated and try to "copslain" why they are allowed to ask for i.d. even though there is no stop and i.d. state in the U.S.
There is a great youtube channel called AUDIT THE AUDIT that breaks down most of these auditors and explains the right's and wrong's of both the officers and auditors....
