There's a few ways. Obviously the first is celebrity/$$$ status. If you got hella dough and also are associated w/something you'll get VIP treatment (ie HT Nerdette, Gamestop reps, Popcultcha, etc)
The other are those being loooooong standing fans. Remember Funko has been around since 1998 and there are fans that are have been collecting since then. Carol Lamb is one person i can think of. Her collection is INSANE!! She's got hella vintage Freddy Funko figures, and vintage signs. I think one year Brian gave her a trophy and labeled her "Queen of Funko" or something like that.
Other ways is being super active on Funko boards. Some people who've been on there for years have gotten to personally know Mike Becker and hence acquire a status to . My Funko Bae Yoko used to be a super fan who eventually got a job at Funko.
the fact is most of us have been in this for 1-2 years max, save for a few peeps that posted here when the thread started about 3 years ago so it'll be awhile if ever we get VIP status lol.

So hot topic canceled my t dog pop after a week of waiting for tracking. Drove 24 miles out of my way from work to get it at the store. Good thing is it was actually 5 bucks cheaper with my 30 off coupon and minus shipping. Now I have to drive in traffic going home. I'm a enjoy this shake shack right now before my drive back home

The two VIPs I'm dealing with have been collecting Funko since 98. It's awesome though, they get a pass to just skip whatever line, not have a to camp and get one of everything they want.
Has me in my feels cuz some of my friends camped 16 hours just to watch people who skipped from the back of the convention get tickets and to watch the VIPs walk up without tickets and cop from the booth.

Yeah but that's no different then when you got a plug at a boutique like kith or Concepts or Supreme. There's always gonna be people that know people.

Yeah it just really sucked for a lot of people who spent days out there just to not even have a chance. It was the same people everyday with that VIP fast pass walking around the convention floor with huge *** bags of one of everything. Luckily I didn't camp out one time and I still ended up with everything I wanted from the convention and then some but it still sucked for a lot of people
