General Sizing Question

I'm new to this forum and also new to the sneaker world. I'm unsure on what size I should be buying for shoes. I buy my shoes in a size 10.5 but sometimes I feel that isn't right. With most shoes, they feel like a perfect fit on the sides but usually are roomy in the toe area and when I walk the back of my foot slides in and out of the shoe. I want to move down to a 10 but fear it'll be tight on the sides. Any suggestions? Also, sorry if this is not in the right place. I'm still kinda figuring these forums out.

This also depends on the material of the shoes. Some material are more forgiving than others. Fuse material is generally less forgiving and mesh material is more forgiving. Leather can be in between, they'll feel tight at first but breaks in.
