Godzilla Lives On! 2018 Nissan GTR Confirmed!

Benz already sells i4 turbos in the C.
Hybrid tech/electric will eventually produce faster more.powerful cars then petrol

But will it match the price? I mean the NSX and i8 is slated to be $100k+ and the Porsche 918 is likely going to be in the $200k-$300k.

The Tesla S is pure EV but even that can easily reach $100k for the one with a 300mile range (which isn't even accurate, testers are getting around 250 or less miles per charge). EV engines does provide instant torgue but even the Fisker with all it's torque still goes 0-60 in 7 seconds (?).

Prius is already $20k+ and it is slower than gas cars that cost a lot less. The Volt is already $39k starting, is that right? http://www.chevrolet.com/2012-volt-electric-car/features-specs/trims.html

At the end, I really have no opposition in car makers producing vehicles like these and if we are headed there, then that is fine as long as the buyers/drivers aren't forced to choose which cars they/we can buy/drive. To those who can afford a gas guzzling GTR, they should be able to buy their car w/o hassle. I mean the government already fines you with a gas guzzler tax on these vehicles too.

On a side note, isn't the US already the strictest when it comes to passing car emissions that prevents us from enjoying other cars here? Plus with fuel cost, in comparison to Europe, aren't we paying a lot less per gallon?

@ first underlined...a fair argument...

in regards to fuel costs compared to europe, its how you look at it right? i agree that we are cheaper here, but at the same time with an unemployment situation, little increase in overall salaries vs an increase in the cost of living, id say that these high gas prices still hurt regardless of how it is over the pond.

Government trying to get classics of the streets and "green" cars into production. I don't like this
These "green" cars give outstanding performance as well. The Tesla Roadster goes 0-60 in 3.8 and is pure electric. It also has a fuel range of like 250 miles which is pretty insane.

Also the CAFE standards doesnt mean everything will go hybrid, it just means manufacturers need to have a balance. Which is why BMW has Mini and Mercedes Benz has Smart Car. It helps them build more powerful cars because their 'eco friendly' sub companies will help their average out.

They're makin boutique brands like Lamborghini & Ferrari do da same thing..

I say its gonna kill performance for da common man...

You do know the Tesla Roadster starts at $110k right? You cna get a ZR1 or GTR for that price. And you also know that Teslas interior is crap, right? Every owner I know or met hates the interior the most, it felt very cheap and very basic and sitting inside, it doesn't feel like a $100k car.

Tesla also made the Model S I mention a page back and the 300-mile range is only getting 250miles from most tests and it starts at $97k for the performance model that can go 0-60 in 4.4sec.

The discussion is with the price, if the government mandates these high mpg cars, it'll affect the lower priced sports cars. The cost of making a hybrid or EV fast is a lot and not everyone can pay $100k to be able to drive fast. Let's take the 370 as an example, it is a $33k sports car that cna go 0-60 in less than 5sec but it's mileage 19/26 and you cannot magically increase the mpg on it by 10-15 miles w/o affecting the performance or price.

Again, look at the cheaper hybrids and EVs out now, they are all molasses slow but really that isn't even the point. It's about peoples choice, if some are willing to pay to drive fast and not worry about mpg, why not let them?

possibly.. but I'm sure theres always going to be some loophole. Hopefully it makes less people race on the street, and have the courage to race on the track.

Anyways, Its good to see the GTR still under development!

Europe is in a recession too, wasn't the whole country of Italy about to or went bankrupt or something?

I am not saying it doesn't hurt the pockets to have these high gas prices but like I said, the US already has a very strict emission laws that prevents car makers from bringing cars in that aren't into "US" standards, then there is the gas guzzlers tax to those who wants to drive a non-fuel-efficient vehicle and car makers are making improvements and there are so many choices of gas efficient vehicles now, it seems like it is a battle on who can crank the highest MPG right now really. So there is improvement and it can only get better but don't think car makers have to be forced into changing their performance cars because of the "laws".

I'm still waiting for a use 2009 or 2010 to come down to around $50k - $53k.

Can't wait to see what the next generation will look like.

It's going to be a while, a 2010 with 50k miles is still going for ~$60k. And I am not sure you'd want to buy this car with that much mileage.

On another note...

Nissan GT-R Nismo is set to be fastest-accelerating car ever, covering 0-60mph in 2 seconds

Nissan is poised to launch the fastest-accelerating production car ever when it unveils the GT-R Nismo at the Tokyo Motor Show in November.

According to one insider speaking at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the new Nismo-tuned GT-R will cover 0-60mph in an astonishing 2.0 seconds.

That will make it faster than million-pound hypercars like the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and lightweight track models such as the Ariel Atom V8.

This turn of speed will be partly down to a power boost for the twin-turbo V6, but we also expect a slightly lower kerbweight.

The Nismo is being developed with the help of British company Williams Advanced Engineering – the team that also helped to create the Juke Nismo.

An engineer from Williams told us: “You’d be surprised at how much room for improvement there is – even with a car like the GT-R. Where you expect it’s all been tuned to the maximum, it’s actually easy to make big gains.”

As with other Nismo cars, the GT-R will get a range of sporty styling upgrades, which is likely to include a more aggressive exhaust system, plenty of carbon fibre trim and red detailing.

Nissan hasn’t given any indication what the Nismo GT-R will cost, but expect to pay more than £100,000 when it arrives in the UK early next year.

Nismo chief product specialist Hiroshi Tamura told Auto Express at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed: “Nismo was for petrolheads, but now has wider accessibility. Nismo is very much driven by customer demand so if they want diesels, why not?”

Tamura wouldn’t confirm a Nismo diesel version of the new Golf rival, but said: “We’re looking to satisfy people who’ve grown up tuning performance cars in Gran Turismo.”

So I'm in a position where I'm able to get a 2009, anybody know the Pro's & Con's of one? I figured I'd ask in here instead of the regular car thread because there's too much nonsense going on in there right now. I was gonna look for a GTR forum too but figured I'd get a less biased answer from you guys here.
