Lattimore, the team's freshman sensation, was injured on the Gamecocks' opening drive of the game. Florida State cornerback Greg Reid hit Lattimore in the chest and the mouth, forcing Lattimore to fumble--his first lost football of his college career.
Fans watching the game on television first saw Lattimore on the ground surrounded by training staff for about two minutes, then walk to the sideline. He initially received treatment to his lip and was holding a cloth over his mouth, and was taken to the locker room before the half.
USC Football Coach Steve Spurrier later told ESPN that USC's staff believed Lattimore suffered a concussion.
A source close to the Lattimore family told News19 Saturday that part of Lattimore's mouth was torn from his gums, and that a plastic surgeon had to fix the injury.
