Can one remain a passionate sports fan without the need to hate? I understand hatred of rivals, which is necessary, but when does it become excessive?

I often ask myself why it matters when a team or player I hate wins. They earned their reward. When I look at Lebron James I, like many of you, get tickled at the thought of watching him fail. But when I think about it further, he is a great player and a good person --- why must I harbor toxic emotions toward such a being? If I am a talented, hard working, good person - do I not deserve that same energy back?

I've been thinking a lot lately just about life in general and my place in the universe, and I'd really like to live a life dominated with positive energy in everything I do. I'm trying to see though how this way of thinking can be implemented into my sports fandom. Is it possible? Is there a place for a Zen sports fan?

whenever i see something bad happen to a current Pittsburgh Steeler i smile i dont know why i just do

I don't hate any players or teams... Of course you root against certain teams or players or poke fun at them being rivals & what not, but I never take it farther than that of it actually resulting in hate.

It's the culture today's media has created and we just live in their world.

"Hate" has slowly gotten stronger and stronger for the last decade because that is what sells. It's not enough for Lebron to miss a shot. We have to then analyze it for 48 hours on every platform, then compare him to MJ, then ask ourselves if Leron wants to win, then check twitter to copy and paste tweets to fuel the agenda. Then repeat.

We've said this in here many times. If Michael Jordan existed in today's world he would be destroyed about as much as Lebron is.

And it's only getting worse.

I enjoyed hating reggie miller and lebron. I enjoy hating the eagles and islanders. Enjoy hating pauk pierce.
