I loved Deadwood.  One of my favorite shows.  I like miserable shows I guess 

.  What I liked about it was it felt really original and gritty.  It definitely was miserable and depressing at times.  Trixie helped raised your spirits though

I was hyped for this show before it premiered but I only ended up watching the premiere episode 

.  I'll try and get around to watching a few more.  Any news on if it will get renwed for a second season?

You aren't late. The first 6 episodes were butt smear. The last 2-3 have been good.
