The only thing that you immediately should replace upon purchasing a E36 is the cooling system (if the dealer/PO hasn't done it already). A full overhaul on those components (water pump, aluminum thermostat housing, thermostat, aluminum rad, hoses etc.) and you've got a 400k+ mile car. Also if your interested in one look at '96+ E36's only.
