Before anyone freaks out, this study was conducted in a temperature controlled lab environment where the virus was not exposed to any light or other outside factors, so it's not realistic. As usual, Dr. John Campbell is the voice of reason who can describe it better than I can.

As weirdly as this may sound the pandemic forced my hand on changing my patterns/thinking/friendships/etc all for the better. I share this with everyone as someone who regularly goes to therapy weekly. Friends have drastically changed as I watched from afar with their me me me approach at living. People not being able to sacrifice their routines/habits/etc has been so disheartening to watch. I know quite a few of people who have contracted the virus and even after enduring the wrath of it still continue to go on with their selfish ways. The way a majority of Americans have this same approach to everything is a leading factor to why we are where we are now. Ive dealt with anxiety through out my life and let me tell you some of the days/nights through this were pure hell. My girlfriend is a front line worker and has had multiple scares with the virus and those prolonged periods of waiting/testing/etc have been agonizing mentally. Dealing with selfish customers at work has been agonizing. Dealing with conspiracy driven family members has been agonizing. Agonizing is a word that has summed up this year yet I have peace. All the things ive missed/can't do anymore I have peace with as I have had no choice other than to adapt. COVID forced my hand to become a better human. As odd as that may sound this year has been the best in my life for growth. Blessings and strength to all out there through this. If anything remember this too shall pass.

My mom works as a nurse in a nursing home and one of her coworkers just tested positive. The coworker works on the same floor as my mom but they haven't interacted or even been present at the same time in the past 10 days or so.
Despite the positive test, the nursing home is only testing a select few employees who came in close contact with her. They're not even testing all of the employees who worked the same shift as her.
Utterly ridiculous.

Agree her reaction is kinda out there since no one really following the guidelines and paying attention. But since I doubt you’ve ever lived under a totalitarian Communist regime, some food for thought on internal living/travel restrictions.

Depends on the work flow and how the place is constructed I guess?
I work on the fifth floor. If someone who works on the fourth floor tests positive, I'm not sure I'd want to take the test unless I visited the fourth floor or she visited mine.

Not sure where you live, but do you still notice widespread compliance with masks, people respecting each others' space, and other common sense interventions that actually work to limit spread of the virus? I think we are in the acceptance phase where people are trying to figure out how to move forward in the new normal while learning to accept and mitigate risk as much as possible. For example, if keeping bars closed leads to keeping schools open and not allowing visitors into nursing homes means protecting the vulnerable, then people will hopefully be able to maintain some semblance of a normal life. I do notice alot more people out shopping, etc but they are doing so in what appears to be a mostly responsible manner. New infections have dropped to a manageable level, but won't go down much further because kids are back in school and parents are back at work. As far as health officials are concerned, the curve has been flattened and some restrictions have been lifted, but the old normal is a distant dream.

The problem is they're not testing all of the employees who worked on the same floor and shift as her in the past week. I don't understand the logic behind that decision. You're bound to run into eachother at some point when you work on the same floor, especially during breaks.

Do they also share other common areas like bathrooms and breakrooms? These are areas of most concern to me, as many people take off their PPE and undoubtedly spread viral particles to common touch surfaces, along with the obvious aerosolization from eating, breathing, etc.

I'm familiar with travel restrictions of totalitarian regimes. What I'm saying is making the comparison to what we're going through right now is absolutely ridiculous for numerous reasons.

Yes. The breakroom is quite large though so that's not necessarily a big concern, the workers aren't packed in a small room. The bathrooms and locker rooms are my biggest concerns.

Depends where you live. For example, I've seen plenty of evidence that parts of Florida have zero restrictions and the general public is taking very few precautions.
