He can't be held hostage by votes. That's a major problem, because if he were to choose Hillary, he'd have to struggle with all her baggage. Not
to mention having Bill Clinton around too and we all remember what Bill Clinton said in the early stages of the race. I can't see it happening. If he
wants the working white vote and the women's vote, then he'll have to go talk to these people in person, but he can't allow himself to be backed
into a corner by Hillary's supporters.
who do you think he will choose since it won't be Hillary and John Edwards? and what type of person should he choose?
Great question. The Democrats have a lot of talented and capable people first off. IMO, I think he should pick someone like Jim Webb or Bill Richardson.
The pro's on Jim Webb is that his war credentials are solid, more so than Mccain, which I think would help Barack offset Mccain's biggest strength, the
war in Iraq. The con may be that he is "too old" in the sense that he may not represent the change in the white house that most voting for Obama will
want to see. Also, I may be wrong on this, but he was a Republican...not too sure about that.
In the case of Bill Richardson, his foreign policy experience cannot be overlooked. I think he would be a boost to the ticket in that sense and also in thesense
that he may be able to sway the Latino vote in the Fall (although, I don't see many Latino's voting republican). Depending on how one views this, thecon's on
Richardson is that he was a part of the Clinton administration. That may be good or bad.
*Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Al Gore got the nod, assuming he wanted it of course. He did receive a larger amount of the popular vote while he wasrunning
against Bush and people have grown familiar with Gore through the years. His bread and butter is the environment and with Obama promising 20% renewable
energy and alternative fuel sources, someone with Gore's credentials can only help.
Granted these are just my ideas. Barack could find someone who I've never heard about. But I think he should be looking at someone who demonstrates thefollowing qualities:
First and foremost:
Foreign Policy relations. A background in war experience of some sort. This will be the biggest issue the GOP will attack on.
Second:
Someone will economy experience, whether they are conservative or liberal. With the way Americans are suffering, adding another person with sound judgment onthe economy only can help.
Lastly:
I've only been talking about what candidates should have, but what they don't have will be equally important. Obama cannot have someone with a lot ofbaggage or controversy surrounding them. Whoever he picks, his campaign has to make sure they research these people thoroughly. Another Rev. Wright catastrophewould put the White House on the line in a race only divided by 2 points.
