Houston Rockets Thread - Preseason vs Spurs (Friday)

Couldn't have picked a worst opponent to make look like studs, even before Harden's injury, which appears to be a slight knee contusion. ****** performance all the way around, but with no inside presence (defensively), I'm not surprised that Monroe and Drummond are banging in the paint. i am shocked at the high rate of 3 pointers the Pistons are making though. Sure would be nice if D-Mo and Smith shine again, but D-Mo's 2 silly fouls are keeping that from happening.

This would've been a nice comeback win, but instead it will be a miserable loss. We let some go name Caldwell Polk or Pope and DJ Augustine flourish. A ******* shame.

I hate how we seem to have no offensive sets

I say just keep posting Dmo up

Harden didn't practice yesterday, but practiced today.

Also, quick question. Besides the obvious guys like Dragic and Lawson, would even Norris Cole, Mario Chalmers, or Isaiah Thomas be a PG upgrade??

imo, Norris/Mario: nah.
Isaiah: Debatable, but probably not

Bev brings tenacity and energy on both ends of the court. His defensive impact in the past was a lot better than just this year specifically. But he's sort of trended toward increasing his offensive focus in order to keep up and be able to start within our system. Seems like the end result is mostly just more volume, ha. but his 3% is the best it's been, so there's that. Said system doesn't really penalize guys for not playing defense, so Bev is able to play it in spurts like he has done this year. He's had some lapses that he didn't have in the past. But either way, his energy alone is pretty elite for a PG. When he wants to clamp up, he does it better than most. Isaiah would bring us more scoring, but he's small and I'm not sure how well he would play off the ball (which is what we'll need considering Harden facilitates).

If we're going to upgrade, imo it's going to have to be somebody that can score of the ball well, have some size, and play some sort of defense.

I wish we can get an upgrade at pg. Although I love Bev's defense and heart, he just can't make plays for himself/team. Dragon would be HUGE for us

Good first half, but we have to get those rebounds, both offensively and on defense.

its hard to see these guys on the brink of being able to step on the neck of some of these teams.

got joey dorsey getting offensive rebounds and trying to attack BOTH of Chicago's bigs rather than kicking it back out. Somebody needs coach these cats, man. So frustrating to watch.

****** 3rd quarter. Harden went scoreless, which is agonizing.

Ditto to putting their foot on teams necks. I hate that they always leave the door open for them.

GG fellas

Smith just needs to keep doing what he's doing: defense, not force the action, easy buckets

Much better finish. Rockets came out in the 4th on fire and playing elite d, and that basically sealed the game, even with the Bulls making another run. That whole chunk of the 4th where Harden didn't have to play was amazing to see. Wish that could happen more often :lol. i was truly amazed at the defense we played late, which lead to very easy offensive scores. Seeing the Bulls look completely helpless at times was a thing of beauty :smokin

Also have to mention, we only had 6 turnovers the entire night. That's a key reason why we do lose some of these games, especially ones we should win, because of the rapid turnover rate.

Love what I'm seeing so far in the first half, though we should still have an 18 point lead instead of 12. The ball movement has been fantastic, and everybody has pretty much been contributing except Terry. His 3s have fallen off, and McHale needs to put Canaan in to keep things still moving. I just don't know why McHale can't have him in the rotation, instead of just wasting him. Nice to see Ariza has found his offense the last two games, cause it's been needed.

It's annoying as **** that this team can't KEEP their foot on other teams necks, they just continue to fall asleep and get into dogfights all the time

yea tough game for Jet, but he will be aight. He's a savvy vet and still does some of the intangible things well. plus we can play him in spot minutes, and should be able to get the same results regardless. we don't need him to heat up. But that said, we should have BEEN getting Canaan some sort of fluid rotational minutes. We tend to throw guys out on islands/into the fire as far as phasing our rotations in. imo at least.

i was watching/looking up that portland playoff series the other day and realized we gave up multiple 4th quarter leads/close games late. It's the same thing that's been haunting us all year. Then I was looking at the Bucks's broadcast of the game on league pass and their assistant coach straight up said we're the type of team that they feel confident will let them get back in the game after missing a few shots in a row. |I Can't play a style of game that allows a team like the Bucks say this.

Josh Smith's passing though. :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

in a good way. our dudes low-key be sleeping on his passes/causing turnovers. he gets skittish sometimes, but dude has an arsenal. he's looking way better when he's pass first as a role player against big men.

Smith's play making is really needed on this squad for obvious reasons, but he does make some passes that are :lol

I was hoping the Sun would start to fall off but I don't think that's going to happen. At this point I'm hoping for a Ty Lawson trade but I'm not sure Denver really wants to give him up.

And let Canaan play, JET hasn't really done anything the past couple of games, he's been a zero. I understand McHale is loyal to JET because he's a vet but damn man he looks 37 out there right now.

Ditto to the Suns and Denver. i was hoping the Suns would get flushed down the toilet, but they have a lot of talent, and that organization knows that. Denver on the other hand is getting their doors blown off with no end in sight. They need to have a fire sale and when need to be one of the suitors. They can have their pic of Dorsey/Shved :lol

y'all being fair-weather if you're trying to get JET out the paint. He's played a solid role on this team all year.

and IDK about Ty Lawson. Does adding him mean Beard facilitates less? Who catches and shoots more? Can Lawson catch/shoot? Can he defend PGs better? I'm all about upgrading at the 1, but not some whimsical upgrade. Needs to truly be vetted so it's someone that fits

I'd say tonight's game is pretty important. Have a chance to own the tiebreaker, and the way the West is looking, it would be great to have it. I'd be sick is *****illard and LMA feast again. Don't even get me started on that loser Wes Matthews.
