How many NT'ers play Guitar? Tips, advice, comments? vol. I got an electric axe

I picked up a Squier Deluxe Strat 2 weeks ago and intend to take beginner's classes in January.  What are you guys banging with?  Are Acoustic brand amplifiers good inexpensive starters for beginners?

Don't get anything made by an acoustic brand, unless it is for an acoustic guitar. Get a cheap Fender solid state amp, if you can search around pawn shops for cheaper used ones.
