that's really funny man!

romantically speaking, gameover2 is right, "tanging mahal" or "tanging irog". for any other context, it will be "tangingpag-ibig".

So what if your trying speaking in terms of uniting like in Bob Marley's song "One love/people get ready"?
My friend told me it was Isang Mahal... Is there a difference in context?. Found this today...

correct me if i'm wrong, but mahal is a verb, ibig would be the noun for love.

and i would say xaymaca.

i LOVE you = MAHAL kita

one and only LOVE = nag-iisang PAG-IBIG

LOVE of a mother = PAGMAMAHAL ng isang ina

LOVE one another = MAHALIN ang kapwa

LOVE of my life = PAG-IBIG ng buhay ko

technically speaking, one LOVE = tanging PAG-IBIG = nag-iisang PAG-IBIG
different context, different translation in tagalog.

in general, LOVE = PAG-IBIG = PAGMAMAHAL.

the "LOVE" word can be both verb and noun. it depends on which context you use it.

like size twelve said, MAHAL is a verb and IBIG (PAG-IBIG) is a noun. but MAHAL is now a corrupted word which we sometimes use as a term of endearment(essentially a noun).
