Any tips for the Atlanta area?
No worries.
That is a popular notion/stigma, but not entirely true. Obviously it helps to know someone who can see your resume to the HR Manager/Specialist or put in a word to the Division Chief and get you an interview, but it is not the only way. Vets Preference does help, but there are enough jobs (depending on the location) to land one.
It can definitely be a frustrating process and often times the hard work and time put in goes unnoticed and unrewarded. It might take 100 apps to get one interview.
These intern programs are a great way to get into Federal Service. Not many jobs out of college will pay you $40,000 with three $10,000 raises in the first three years.
Once you get your foot in the door as an intern/SCEP/STEP/federal service employee or even a contractor....the sky is the limit.
If you have any questions or need a hand with something....let me know.
Same here, looking for something in the central florida area.If you got any info about openings in FL, I'm all ears. Repped for helping the community. In the end we all are family.

I think I sent you a resume not too long ago. The positions I'm looking for are very hard to get without a security clearance or some sort of military experience. I did apply to some of those internships (I agree these are a great opportunity) and got past the initial screening, but never an interview. I've sort of given up using USAjobs.gov and applied to some agencies directly (that allow you to do so) and have tried to use contacts I have to land something in D.C. Thankfully, I'm at a good job right now and aren't doing this without any source of income.

Good thread. Will keep my eyes open in here if anything opens in AZ. I get out of the service in a year time to start planning ahead and seeing whats out there after Military life.
Shoutout to jesusshuttlesworth34 for his great advice.
While he didn't set it up directly, I recently interviewed for an IT position with the state gov't after putting his advice to work.
