Closed nondisplaced fracture of head of left radius bone in arm (where my elbow meets my forearm bone).
I was running on a sidewalk. Cyclist collided with me from behind, knocked us both over.
I tried to brace my fall on my left side but clearly I didn’t help myself enough.
Bummed out.
Anybody been in this spot, or have any tips to make this time easier, having an arm sling easier?
I had a couple surgeries when I was 13 and 18 and was bed ridden for a month and then some both times, during the summer nonetheless. So I can empathize a little.
Sounds like the head of your radius jammed into the joint and fractured it? Must have been some heavy impact. Also sounds like you have a civil case if you want it.
Tips:
1) Take it one day at time. You're naturally going to want the recovery to be faster than it's taking and it's going to feel like it's taking forever. Don't get frustrated or down on yourself. Take advantage of the down time and catch up on TV series, books, movies. Don't think on your injury too much.
2) Keep your nutrition in check. I remember being laid up and not giving a damn. Frozen food, fast food, soda, candy. Don't do that. Eat good wholesome foods and stay hydrated.
3) Only take pain meds if absolutely necessary. Those things are a slippery slope and can easily lead to withdrawal.
4) Find a point person like family member that can help you with menial tasks that are tough to do in a sling. Good way of flirting too if you're single.
5) When it gets to that point, take your therapy seriously. Do the take home exercises they give you and follow through with the whole program.
Good luck. Hope it's smooth sailing. Get outside and go for walks. Being inside too much isn't good either.
