anything in particular? types of food?
I can start off with the general types:

BEST BURGERS:

Kitchen 24 in Hollywood  http://www.kitchen24.info/Home.html

Umami Burger (right down the block from Kitchen 24) http://umamiburger.com/

BEST MEXICAN:

El Tepeyac in Boyle Heights (LA) - These burritos are huge, order one for yourself and I assure you, you will not finish it. http://www.yelp.com/biz/manuels-original-el-tepeyac-cafe-los-angeles

King Taco - can be in Cali without having this, its good - http://www.kingtaco.com/

let me know what type of food you want and I'll know where to send you

Shabu Shabu House - Little Tokyo (Japanese)

M Grill - Koreatown (Brazilian BBQ)

The Boiling Crab - Koreatown

i hit these spots regularly. check them out on yelp to see if they're u're type.

for shopping, if you're into streetwear...

check out La Brea for Union LA, Stussy, and UNDFTD (Pink's Hot Dogs is also on La Brea. Its an LA classic, but really not THAT awesome.)

Fairfax/Rosewood - Diamond Supply Co., Supreme, Hall of Fame, HUF, The Hundreds, FLIGHT CLUB (It's also next to Melrose, which has shoe stores like Sportie LA.)

Little Tokyo has a few shops too if you want to hit up RIF. Santa Monica wouldn't be a bad place to stop by either
