Information Technology (IT)

my buddy asked me about help with passing network+
can anyone point me some resources i can recceomend
For the CompTIA trifecta (A+/Net+/Sec+) I always recommend Professor Messer on YouTube. It’s a great starting point. His content is free and he keeps his videos short & sweet so it’s not too hard to stay on track. This is only a starting point though.

Studying for CCNA could help too (Jeremy IT Lab), although it will go a little more in depth compared to what’s needed for Net+.

Just as a comparison, I got my CCNA then went back and got Net+, didn’t study for it at all and it felt like an extremely easy exam.

perfect for my hummingbird attention span
But fr, I skip some days unfortunately but the shorter lengths make revision much more palatable, n less tedious....

Hiring is rough right now it seems

The positions that I’m finding either aren’t paying or the requirements are ridiculous.
Seems like things haven't opened up since the last big tech layoffs/hiring freeze. It's like companies are waiting on the big boys to give the ok. Places running hella lean, and the bad part is it's kinda, sorta working.

New big department out of DC boss is kind of a ****, fam does recalls during noon and today @'d everyone at like 3:53. It's clear he's just fishing to see who is online or not. I for damn sure was at the barber shop I just happened to have looked at it right fast before I was about to shut it down

I know some people don’t like to or can’t have work apps on their personal devices but I just schedule a work focus mode during business hours and only allow notifications from Teams, Outlook, etc while in that focus mode.

Ima see that @ at the gym, at the barbershop, at the grocery store, and reply expeditiously whenever it’s necessary.

Know a chick who had a sweet remote IT gig and she would occasionally run out without her laptop. I would tell her you gotta chill, whenever you move you need to have it with you just in case. Well she didn’t listen.

Someone important sent an email just to her as opposed to the team and she didn’t respond in a timely manner so they escalated it. They hit her up like what happened and gave her the axe.

If I’m out and about I got the work iPhone, Laptop, and chargers for both. Won’t catch me slipping

My new setup is i got a tablet i activated on mint mobile for the $15 unlimited and I use that as my wifi router as opposed to my phone when i am out.

We are still about a month plus into ny employment and I still won’t be able to get rights and access to the Cyber scanning tools until damn near December as that is the soonest class they have (1 week instructor led virtual class plus cert ffor ACAS) so as of this point it doesnt matter as much since I cant/ am not doing much but big boss strikes me as the type to keep a running tab of times he emailed or im’d and you didn’t respond right away or were yellow or offline too long. Could be totally wrong tho but the lunchtime recall and @ing everyone first thing in the morning and literally minutes before COB gives me those vibes

Expound on that. Don't it get throttled when past the cap??? or it don't matter; as long as ur connected!?

Unlimited data pleighboi and mobile hotspot, $15 a month. Cheap Chinese tablet with 4g sim card slot. It’s technically a full on phone now with the sim in it and not just a wifi only tablet, you could call me on it or vice versa but that’s not what I use it for. Never been throttled but the fine print does say after 40 or 50gb of 5g lte data in a billing cycle you might be subject to deprioritization

Anybody want to move to Key West, FL for around 210k? I’ll forward you the email and name drop me as having referred you I should get a little 5k kickback from the recruiter

Ya that are remote are lucky. We have the capability to do remote. My supervisor doesn't like the option because one dude who doesn't work in our area anymore messed it up.

We work in a work area where there are probably four work sections. Three out of the four have the remote capability. And the the folks who worked in our section during the COVID have the secure work capability. But any new folks aren't offered the option. I've talked to my supervisor about it. Just stand offish. One of the newer guys wife is pregnant and asked about it. Got shut down.

this what im seeing now too. my LinkedIn feed is full of looking for a role etc, and recruiter reaching out is definetly gone to zero.

as for those folk in remote position - just be careful and here's a story for you folks and from what i read and hear from other folks this happens a lot. I had a remote role for the past 2 years and everything was peachy - heck got a raise, bonus was just paid and usual quarterly award recipient. suddenly i got verbal / written up for not being attentive and cooperative during meetings, late in replies etc. i was kinda confuse about the whole thing but i just ok will work on it. went on a 2 week vacation and i was already thinking something is up. came back after 2 days - got written up again with the same thing lol, so i finally asked for receipts and examples - and they couldn't show me - i even screenshare my teams chat lol and they pivot that i haven't really improved and now asking me for a status update every week. the next day i turned in my 2 weeks - because i know whats happening. a day after turning my 2 weeks, manager told me its my last day and turning off all my accounts.

so lesson here is just be careful. if they put their sight on you no matter if your high performing and remote, they will get rid of you. im in a great place some so im not worried much losing this job - just a heads up.

anyone in here on the Gov.Contracting side ever work with APEXsystems or Insightglobal? curious to know more about them

Yes. I will just say if you work with Apex, don't disable your Monster/Linkedin/Ziprecruiter/Lensa/nexxt/etc account, keep your resume active and on searching for work status. Which honestly would be my advice anyways, but Apex will fire you and not let you know until the next day. They also had a class action suit down here at Dell when those contracts went SCA and everyone's pay automatically should have gotten bumped to that minimum, they didnt tell them and kept paying them the lesser amount and later had to pay back like 100s of 1000s, maybe 1,000,000s'

But at the same time they had me out here brand new to OKC, making more than the whole site lead over the Help Desk  and some of the travel guys were killing, if they negotiated right they got the same as me plus a rental car and a hotel (started at the motel 6 then moved them all into the brand new Candlewood Suites).

But when they pulled out of the contract suddenly, some people only got as much notice as being sent their flight arrangements back home and instructions to checkout and turn in their car. I was local so I got a call like 3:57pm on Friday from the site lead (who was hired under the prime company Croop LaFrance) asking me why I haven't turned in my keys and admin card and stuff. I'm like why would I? He told me, you didn't know, today is your last day, I assumed Apex had told you. And some of the people didnt even get that much notice and came back Monday only to get embarassingly escorted out. But some of the guys who were able to travel got placed onto something else, one dude super won and got like a data entry somewhere in California but still with the car and room so no c.o.l adjustments

TLDR: Apex is shady but will pay well and every Friday while you have the job, just keep some options open for when they inevitably screw you over because they will

Just got hit up from a recruiter from Insightglobal. Had a call yesterday and a VC with them today.

It was for a remote "Demand Analyst" position paying 45/hr.
