Is the Sneaker game dying?

Far from dead. It's just going through trends now. Certain brands are losing momentum and others are gaining. This "sneaker game" has been very much alive for the past decades. Shoe's have and will always be seen as social or status symbol. Even high end designer brands are making sneakers now.

I feel like the natural, or maybe the more common progression is for older heads (10 years+) To consolidate to their top/most exclusive kicks, so they can keep the "just to be like ni$$# you aint up on this" part of collecting...

he's saying older heads would keep their most "exclusive" kicks (i.e. stuff that hasn't been retroed again or for a long while) to stunt on these new jacks. I think the idea of exclusivity should be done away with, it's the basis for what this thread is complaining about.

for me its less that the game has changed, and more i've become less interested in it + tastes have changed kind of. either way id rather spend the $ else where (not that i was a huge collector to begin with)

I am putting money that Yeezys will not stand the test of time like some Nike shoes have. Even a lot of Dunk SBs look silly at this day in age but shoes like Jordan 4s, Air Max 1s and others are timeless. Yeezys, aside from resale value, just look too goofy. If it wasn't so limited, I don't think it would have the same appreciation value. Same with these blown out jeans with holes in them. No way that fashion is going to be rocked in another couple of years. Classic jeans always look the best.

Nah it ain't dying. I'm making more money than ever off Adidas sneakers that I don't even like.

If anything has died it's the collecting of Jordans. People hesitant to hold on to because of retroes too quickly and restocks a year after release.

100% agreed. I also think joggers aren't going to be rocked in another couple years.

People have been calling it a bubble for damn near 13 years, it's not a bubble. This is the reality of sneakers now, it will never be like it was before.

I don’t think it’s dying, I do think that it’s changing though. I think the term “sneakerhead” has been overused and misused since the release of the sneaker boom of 201. A lot of people that jumped on the sneaker bandwagon around that time were NEVER actually into sneaker culture or the sneakers themselves. They were either closet/outright resellers looking to get money or hypebeast following the latest trend to fit in/stunt on social media. I think that the game has shifted dramatically because of this. Now if a shoe doesn’t have resale value, it’s worthless to most people, even if it’s a classic shoe. Most people also aren’t buying to for themselves, they’re buying to impress others now. Then you’ve got the small community of folks that are really “sneakerheads” that have really gotten the short end of the stick because of all of this nonsense. JB dramatically raising it’s prices over the years has dudes tapping out of most releases early and just the jumping through hoops to get sneakers nowadays is enough to turn most off to a release altogether. I was one that was extremely happy to see Kanye sign with Adidas, simply because I wanted someone to enter the arena and shake Nike up. I knew that he had the ability that he has to sell for a brand. Kanye is truly connected to the youth and has really inspired their fashion. These kids aren’t connected with Jordan. They never watched him play and their reminded of that every time an old head opens their mouth. Are they killing Nike RIGHT NOW? No. 10-15 years from now, they could be if they capitalize on what they have. Nike’s ego got too big and they’re going to pay for it sooner or later. All the things that Nike is trying to do with these limited hyped collabs to combat Adidas aren’t helping. Most of the stock is bought up by bots and resellers and is on Ebay/consignment shops shelves next day and then it’s on to the next drop, people hardly look back to pick up those hyped collabs. Then the resell price drops on that collab after another one comes out. Wash rinse repeat.

 I disagree with this. Kanye knows how to sell hype, and who buys hype? Young consumers who don't know any better with money to burn. If Jordan isn't connected with the youth why are Jordans still popular still? That's the mind boggling part to me. While many say Jordans are dying, they actually have stood the test of time. That's saying something. I wonder if you throw a Kanye retro out 25 years from now if would get any attention. Only time will tell between who is classic vs who is just hot right now because of hype.
