OK NT... so I need your help...

I replied to an ad on craigslist about a job and sent my resume in ...

i kno ...i kno...Im desperate...

But basically the guy calls me back and tells me the job specs which are fairly simple and that I would be working
at the military base close to my house. Apparently I'm going to be a sales rep in the electronic section for Sharp, and Magellan GPS systems.

The pay is $12 an hour and I only get payed once a month with no taxes taken out...

Only work on Thur Fri and Sat. about 15 hours a week.

All of this was discussed over the phone and through email btw... The guy lives in Texas (I'm in Va ) and hes supposed to be flying out here
for two weeks on Friday and we would meet up then..

So basically my question is Has anyone ever experienced something like this before? What should I expect or ask for when we meet up?

And this is just for reading...

i mean as long as it doesnt involve ya SSN and cashing checks you should be good....be sure to meet in a very public place

i got a job at an optometry office over craigslist...it was under the table tax free...

Did he mention who he works for, sounds like you'd be working in the PX/BX for Aafes. Check out www.aafes.com, find your military base, call the Districtor head manager and cross reference his name or any other information you have on him.

make sure you see some source of possible inscome before that month period other than that just be business aware you your good and i agree be cool on thesocial number cuzz the fraud credit scams and debit card tranfer scams is through the roof right now

thanks for the comments ...just needed a secon opinion ..

Ima do so homework on this guy tomorrow..

that pic lowkey caught me off guard, wasnt expecting that.

but this thread is appreciated though.

Working for the BX, they're going to ask for his social, bank info too as they only do direct deposit as opposed to paper checks. That's how it wasback when I worked there anyways, which admittedly was a long time ago. If you do get that job, you'll have first crack at a lot of good electronics deals(plus I know people who worked there or warehouse who used to steal).

this right here

don't give any real personal info until you see that it's a fairly legitimate gig.

but on the real, what do you know of this "guy" other than the ad, phone conversations and email?

I'm just saying... you don't want to end up locked in some basement somewhere with Zed and later they find you in a barrel in someone's backyard.

Yea i know.. I'm not trying to die...

And the company would be paying me not the actual base... He's saying that I would come in and do work for 5 hours and then get someone to sign off.

Ive never been payed like that before but he said it will come in check form in the mail.

contractor work in the PX? I've never heard of that, but I guess it's possible. They have contractor secretaries now on post. Did he give you a company name at least? I mean, if you're working on postthey have to get you an ID card to even get on base to begin with. It's getting more and more sketchy. Ask him how you are going to get on base without anID card and a sticker?

You're either going to get robbed, killed, raped, or it's semi legit and dude is going to have you doing under the table work with no documentation andis probably going to make you work a ridiculous amount of hours then just never pay you since there's no documentation thus far of your employer/employerrelationship. I mean think about it, he even told you you only get paid 1nce a month, so he'll get a month's work out of you before you even begin tosuspect something, and usually on new jobs you come in the center of a pay period, so you work that pay period, then don't get paid until the next so hecould even potentially steal up to 7 weeks of work out of you.

i have a similar situation. i know this one cat who from dallas but live in ny. he says he working on the new memorial building in manhatten and there payinghim 45 an hr. hes a iron/ steel worker .basiclly hes putting up the steel beams and structure of the memorial building. he said there hiring , and ima go injan. he also says they pay his plane back to come to dallas every weekend. should i give it a shot

its not tax free, you would just be an independent contractor. thats what it sounds like anyway. you still have to pay taxes at the end of the year on yoursalary
