Disappointed in the lack of positive reviews in this thread. Still supporting Hip-Hop on June 18th.

I don't really get the negative reviews by some, yeah parts of the production is definitely simpler on some songs but he also has expanded his repertoire and uses ...I'm up to Chaining Day now, it's really smooth so far. Definitely several steps up from Sideline Story :smokin

I hate when I hear a rapper spit a dope verse acapella and in my mind I'm picturing a dope beat then I hear the real song. The beat is good just not what I pictured it sounding like.

Let Down Nas :smokin good to see an artist talk about insecurities related to one of their big hits to be honest, kinda funny too with the Nas comparisons to this album some of y'all were saying :lol

Rich Ni**** dont sound like anything else on the album brahs...dunno why ya'll said that...
It's dope yo. Speaking real talk. :smokin

I like the mellow beat, totally not what we're used to from Cole.

That guitar at the end... :x :smokin

Probably my favorite track on the album. Subject matter. Lyrics are delivered. Production is dope.

I couldn't help but think that maybe I had made a mistake
I mean, you made "You Owe Me" dog, I thought that you could relate
....

Labels are archaic, formulaic with their outcomes
They don't know, they just study the charts
Me, I study the shows, the fans, study their hearts
...

Coach told me play the game to change the game but on the way
I let Nas down, I got no one to blame, I'm ashamed I let Nas down
But this is God's plan, you could never understand, **** it
....

I always believed in the bigger picture
If I could get them ****** to listen outside my core then I can open a door
Reintroduce 'em to honesty, show 'em that they need more
The difference between the pretenders and the Kendrick Lamars
...

This is for the ***** that said that hip-hop was dead
I went to Hell to resurrect it, how could you fail to respect it?

:hat :{ :hat

I feel the same way about Chaining Day....and I don't like the chopped and screwed part at the end.

Let Nas Down...

*Whew*

I was worried it was going to sound corny...but man was I wrong.
It came out dope yo.

Like some people have said, i can see how some people would think this type of music is boring.
But these days people are used to catchy hooks, direct lyrics, dance beats... upbeat and pop.

This is raw right here, when Nas said hip hop was dead i think he was referring to THIS TYPE OF MUSIC MISSING from the game...
I think this is his interpretation of a 90's rap album.

So i get it, i put myself in shoes of casual hiphop or pop fans and I can see that its not very 'fun' to listen to...its not Party type, pre-game, drinkin music for most.

This is simple beats, hard flow, real rapping J.Cole... no longer "Work Out" type cole...
Might not sell as hard mainstream wise but rap wise he stepped his **** the **** up.
Production is better, but ill be objective and say he still has a long way to go to be an ELITE producer...

Improved? Yes. Flawless? Absolutely not.
I too would love to see Cole work on some different productions, but what are we gonna do?
Cole gonna Cole. Just happy to see the progress.

But there are a nice handful of catchy songs. Trouble is great, She Knows is a hit right there... Forbidden Fruit is something reaaaal nice to ride to.
Real ****** is SPOKEN WORD that people just aint used to.

Theres a lot of good on this album, and a few boring areas...but people just wont see the good because its not what theyre lookin for these days.

Im really happy i took that pressure off of myself and just gave it a listen.
Im not going to overplay it today... im going to let that first spin kind of soak in.
Im going to think about it all and come back to it maybe tonight or tomorrow for a more thorough listen.

Im very happy with the album.
I was extremely dissapointed in Sideline Story...as was Cole.
But this is a much better album.

I dont feel like its a 10/10... but off of just ONE LISTEN, SO FAR...id give it like an 8.5/10... which is a lot better than the 6.5 or 7 i originally rated Sideline Story.

When songs grow on me, and i listen more closely to the lyrics that 8.5 might go up or down, but right now Im very pleased with an 8.5 j.cole album... its better than most rap albums these days.

I cant wait to get the physical copy and pop it into the car and ride it out. :smokin

and dont forget guys, we still have TRULY YOURS 3 that we havent heard. Might be a few gems on there too. :smokin

I think I was disappointed because i figured he hangs out with Kendrick so much that maybe Kendrick rubbed off on him and this would sound somewhat close to GKMC :lol. I was hoping he would use his style + Kendricks influence and just spazz.

So my expectations for this album were GKMC type, a classic, 10/10. Thats why i was disappointed.

After 2 listens: 8.2/10 and its not going any higher than that.

That's def not a score of disappointment homie lol

Album is ok. I thought it fell off after the first 5 songs until Let Nas Down came on. That song was real nice. No ID gave him the perfect beat.

Mo Money shoulda been a full song. That N was spitting some **** on there.
