WWE Raw preview (Nov. 25, 2019): Now we’re here
WWE.com
One more night in Chicago(ish)!
The Headliner(s)
Survivor Series did not give us the return of Ronda Rousey, as many suspected it might when the women’s Triple Threat main evented last night (Nov. 24). So what did the decision to have Shayna Baszler’s win, and
Raw Women’s champ Becky Lynch’s post-match beatdown of Baszler, close the show mean?
That WWE wants to get folks who watch their shows on Mondays and Fridays to tune in to USA on Wednesday nights.
But in addition to that, it’s that the company sees The Man as their biggest star. Lynch is allowed to be tough and badass in ways the WWE’s top babyfaces rarely are, and the closing moments of the Battle for Brand Supremacy™ drove both points home. Her pre-match promo was probably the best thing about the main event, which was booked so Becky didn’t directly factor in the decision. Even though she didn’t take the pin or tap out, she still got her heat back from the spot she took prior to the finish by attacking Shayna after the bell. It was The Man we saw standing tall as the copyright logo hit the screen and the curtain fell on
Survivor Series.
And since Rousey didn’t return, what’s next for Lynch? A program with Baszler is coming at some point, you’d imagine, either as part of a program with the most famous MMA Horsewoman, or will Shayna as proxy for Rowdy.
Right now though, it figures to be more partnering with frenemy Charlotte Flair in pursuit of Kabuki Warriors
Women’s Tag belts. It’s a bit of an odd program, with Asuka & Kairi Sane as heels fans love to cheer and Bex & Char as tweeners we’re supposed to (and mostly do, especially in the case of Lynch). But her loss to Asuka at this past January’s
Royal Rumble remains the most high profile blemish on The Man’s resume. Flair and The Empress had an intra-team issue during Raw’s show-opening loss in the elimination tag; seeing Asuka hit The Queen with the green mist reminded us of their long history.
Considering the work schedules and popularity issues of the brand’s top male stars, it’s hard to see a bigger program on Monday nights than Asuka & Kairi Sane vs. Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair.
Who saw that coming when The IIconics couldn’t even get on TV as champs six months ago?
The title scene
WWE champion Brock Lesnar’s issues with the Mysterio family probably aren’t over. But Paul Heyman’s client isn’t advertised for tonight (at least on
WWE.com’s ticket page), and it wouldn’t surprising for him to miss December’s
TLC PPV. So they’re probably at least on hold for now.
He had his pin stolen out from under him last night, but AJ Styles needs to put that out of his mind and focus on tonight’s defense of the
United States title. Given how one-sided his rivalry with challenger Humberto Carrillo has been (even when the young Mexican Superstar wins, it’s usually due to help from someone like Kevin Owens or one of the Street Profits), he might not be that worried, though.
Team Red’s lone
Survivor Series win came on the Kickoff, when
Raw Tag champs Viking Raiders continued their dominant run and established themselves as WWE’s best tag team (apologies to World Cup winners Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows). Who can stop Erik & Ivar? A big, beefy showdown with AOP may soon be on the horizon after Rezar & Akam wrecked “#1 contenders” Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins last Monday.
R-Truth is once again
24/7 champion, as it always should be.
Other stuff to keep an eye on
- We got a break from the Machka Baby drama last night, but we’ll see Bobby Lashley and Lana play tonsil hockey in Rosemont, Illinois yet, I bet.
- Buddy Murphy (literally) knocked on Aleister Black’s door, so that match should be coming. And it should be good.
- We’ve also got feuds between Randy Orton & Ricochet, Drew McIntyre & Kevin Owens, and Seth Rollins & Andrade Raw can focus on now that their trouncing in the the Battle for Brand Supremacy™ is in the rearview.
- Erick Rowan is talking to mystery pet and squashing folks.
It’s the Survivor Series fallout show!
