Back in 1994, when the X's first came out, Nike released them without getting full approval from MJ. The first colorway (white/black/steel) were released with an added toe cap.
MJ disapproved of the shoe and had Nike cease production. Every color after that had the toe cap missing. Sales picked up a ton. MJ would like to think it's because of his decision to have the toe cap removed.
I think Everyone besides Mike KNOWS it's because he came back to play.
