I don't know; I always figured the majority demographic for MTV aren't old enough to vote yet. Maybe I am wrong on this though.

**** the VMAs. I hope the ratings to that crap continues to plummet every year and that also goes for the BET Hip Hop awards which are also a disgrace

this. the BET hip hop awards is beyond terrible. the only thing worth watching from that sorry excuse for an award show is the cyphers. that's the only reason people tune in to watch IMO.

Trl only been off the air 5 or so years, I think that was the last show to show videos
I remember when vh1 would play nothing but Rod Stewart and Cheryl Crow videos all day , now its the ******* baby mama of a athlete or rapper reality show channel

The EBT awards > VMAs this year and that's pretty sad.
I expected much more from MTV.
Kev was terrible
Kanye wasn't there
Frank Lotion was booty
2Chainz doing the M.Bison slide was comedy to me.
ASAP and rihanna was aight at best.
Who in the **** is one direction? Them kids won every award.
Alicia Keys was horrible also.

From what I can remember, it was TRL then afterwards, some hip hop music video show.
They definitely had more music related shows back then. I used to love, Say what? Karaoke.

Pop group from the UK. Those awards meant nothing. People really knew what was up a few years back when Britney Spears won all of those awards when she wasn't buzzing.

x) and Suckerfree Countdown plays actual videos. I really think though Rap City being cancelled did quite a bit of damage to videos being shown (I know that wasn't MTV, but still).

The VMA's time was in the 90's when Music Videos were at their peak.
I remember it used to be a bigger deal than the Grammy's because all the celebs/artists were beyond wasted and something crazy happened EVERY TIME.
Rage Against the Machine climbing up the set and destroying it.
Courtney Love and Madonna going at it about to fight.
Diana Ross(I think) grabbing Lil Kim's titty.
Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley kiss.

I doubt it has anything to do with Kevin Hart hosting it just coincided with the DNC and got slayed in the ratings
