Lakers should trade No. 2 pick in NBA draft to Pacers for Paul George
It’s a no-brainer for the Lakers to make a move for the four-time NBA All-Star, who could be their representative during the 2018 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles.
So, would the Pacers make such a trade?
George just finished the third season of a five-year, $91 million deal, but he can opt out of his contract after the 2017-18 season. Considering that George can just walk away from Indiana in 2018 for nothing, general manager Kevin Pritchard should seriously think about taking the Lakers’ No. 2 pick for George if Pelinka calls with a package. In the back of the Pacers’ mind should be the Oklahoma City Thunder, who lost superstar Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors for nothing in free agency last summer. The small-market Pacers must protect their future and would get a young, talented, cheaper and potential superstar replacement for George at small forward in Jackson and Tatum.
The Lakers should be adamant about keeping point guard D’Angelo Russell in such a George deal since he would complement the possible newcomer with his floor spacing from his shooting ability and passing skills. Perhaps the Pacers could get the No. 2 pick this year and the Lakers’ 2019 first-round pick too. Maybe Lakers combo guard Jordan Clarkson could be an attractive young addition to the Pacers as well.
Decent point to this... IF YOU WERE TO TRADE FOR PG

BEFORE YOU GO CRAZY about trading Ball over Russell, it's much easier because the VALUE of taking a guy of your choosing is significantly higher than guys who have already played.
I think there would be a few workarounds in it, to make the deal even better for us.
# 2, Jordan Clarkson, Luol Deng, Nuggets 2nd in 2018, Bulls 2nd in 2019
---for ---
Paul George, Monta Ellis
- Helps Indy because they now have 4 prospects (JC, #2, #19 & Turner).... A 2018 lottery pick for when they miss the playoffs. Deng can slid right into the 4 for the Pacers and give veteran leadership to help the young guys... Can also then move Thad Young for a Late 1st pick in 2018 because he's in prime years and not of too much use for Indy.
For the Lakers in 2017
DAR / PG / BI / JR / Zu
Nwaba / Monta / Brewer / Nance Jr. / Tarik
#28 / Moz
We'd have $22-25mil in cap space in 2017, We SHOULD NOT use that space past 1 year. All 1 year deals. Overpay a PG for 1 year, and maybe another guy at the 2 or 3 for a year.
If we do not use the space beyond one year.... Monta is in a Player Option year, he'll likely decline it (BUT, he could be someone you can trade for nothing by the deadline to guarantee you have space), Brewer comes off the books.... We can stretch Moz.
From there we would have about $42-45mil in cap space for 2018 even with Julius' cap hold. That would allow us max Cap for a Boogie Cousins.... And $15 or so million to get a 3 & D guy for the bench or a backup PG...
The alternative trades make no sense because in order to create the necessary space for a second max, you'd have to gut almost all of the young guys at the minimum (likely exception of # 2 & BI would be the ones who would end up safe)
im sayingWhat don't you guys understand...Indiana has zero leverage in this trade no need to give up that much for pg
How so? There are no other suitors in the NBA ready to trade for Paul George? You don't think the Celtics have an equally if not, more favorable package they could put together to get him there? You think Paul George is going to have a hesitation playing for a team that just finished with the best record in the east? What don't you guys understand...Indiana has zero leverage in this trade no need to give up that much for pg
We are assuming from what has been reported...that he's set on being a laker...obviously if he just wants to bounce than that's a different story
This same type of stuff gets reported every single year. I dont really see why Paul George is going to jump ship for a team that is probably going to win 30 games next year.We are assuming from what has been reported...that he's set on being a laker...obviously if he just wants to bounce than that's a different story
You just answered your own question did you not?Ok so say they do trade the young players for PG. why would PG resign with a 35 win team with only Ball on it? He could've just stayed in the east and played with Myles Turner in that scenario. What would be the motivation for him to resign? He's not getting the super max because he's not making an all NBA team.
You just answered your own question did you not?
My point is, every year there are reports about some big name free agent coming here, and every year we dont even get a meeting. PG isn't leaving a 40 win team to go to a 30 win team in the prime of his career.
jj reddick 2.0I get we need a shooter but why do so many people want Kennard? I feel like dude is gonna take a few years to even be comfortable in the league and he's no Kyle Korver
