The team was rebuilding. They pretty much cleaned house aside from Kobe. That was their intention when stuff hit the fan and they traded Shaq.

Aside from 04-05 which was an injury plagued trainwreck season they were a middle of the pack team and were a kwame brown missed rebound from a huge upset in 06. Given the circumstances they turned it around as quick as you could reasonably ask. Remember its teams who rebuild and change their identity every few seasons with nothing to show for it.

I get you on the 7 year part. I went with 5 because I thought we were going off how long it took each of them to win again after the trade.

The Lakers won the chip in 02 and then again in 09.. that's 7 years in the making.
My point was that shaq won a championship quicker than Kobe after their last one, and that Kobe struggled for a while before he was able to win a championship again. At no point did I downplay the number of championships

Last title was in 02 but Shaq left in 04 so he's apart of the 7 year struggle you speaking about

AI had arguably his best season that year. Dude averaged 31 points a game and was the scoring champ.
He also had to score 48 points against L.A. in their only win against them, so yes, he did have to carry them. Mutombo was past his prime at that point, even if he did get defensive player of the year. And Aaron mckie? Really?
That whole squad was definitely average.

Replace AI with Kobe and you'd get a bum team

No replace Kobe with AI on that 2001 Sixers and they would still make the Finals because like i said the East was so mediocre in term of competition. Who they beat the Bucks, Raptors etc to get to Finals? Lakers had to go through Spurs, Portland, Kings. etc Night and Day comparison. Once again. 2001 Sixers wouldn't get to Finals if they were to be play on the West.

Also in 2006 Kobe basically did what AI did in 2001. He average i think 35 ppg and carried a bum Lakers team with even lesser talents than the 01 Sixers. Kwame, Smush, Luke, Odom, Vujacic. Of course this LA team would not have any chance against top team like Phoenix, Spurs of Dallas that year.

Now that 76ers team was nothing to brag about talent wise but if I recall correctly, they did have MVP, defensive player of the year, coach of the year, and 6th man of the year that season on their team.

Obviously they weren't a great team by no means but the east was trash that year and to say he "carried" the team is a stretch.

The competition for Ai that year consist of Ray Allen Milwaukee Bucks and VC Toronto Raptors lol. AI is my dude but the Sixers would get mauled playing with West team like Kings, Spurs, Portland etc in West playoff.

Portland was a dyfunctional bunch that year. Id give Philly the series against them mainly because Portland would find a way to self destruct but that 76er team wasnt beating the 01 spurs, kings, jazz, And arguably mavs as well.

I remember people hyping that 76er team tough back in 01 in so cal only to go from top of the world after game 1 to it was all good just a week ago after the lakers violated them in the latter part of the series.

Agreed on 06. That season gets slept on. To get 45 wins out of that crap team and almost upset Phoenix was huge. People forget how terrible that 06 roster was.

Jailblazers took us to 7 games

Sixers took us to 5 games so I doubt they beat Portland

It's all about match ups but that Portland team was truly stacked only a special team beats them that year, which we were obviously were because that started a 3 peat.

Those two blazers teams were different.

Remember Portland had the best record in the league that year at the all star break only to implode in march and April.

Obviously Portland was more talented then Philly but that Portland team lacked discipline and was dyfunctional. I would take the 01 76ers over the 01 blazers moreso because of Portlands self inflicted flaws then anything

I know that. I was just saying that hypothetically speaking had the 01 blazers and 01 76ers met in a playoff series I would take Philly. That's mainly due to Portland late season collapse and self destructive behavior though.

Hate the Lakers and enjoy their current failures as much as you want. That's what this thread is for. By all means post memes, gifs, akward pictures that look like Kobe's kissing Brian cook etc, But to call that 2000 series rigged is plain foolishness.

Same with 2002. The "rigged" conspiracy theorists convientely only bring up game 6 and tend to disregard other parts of that series where Sacramento was given a win in the final seconds of game 5 due to horrid officiating and non calls. The refs crapped the bed huge and 5 and 6. The conspiracy theorists also treat the words of a rogue convicted felon former referee like factual truth and act as if he doesn't have an agenda by saying stuff to spite stern and the NBA.

But hey get back to the Laker bashing, its most likely going to be another long if lebron leaves, that heat haters thread will probably be a ghost town.

Come up with some funny pics, gifs, or what not though. I'm sure most Laker fans aren't expecting much from the team next season. They'll probably suck. Get creative, tell us something we don't know.

You can't bring up game 6 without bringing up game 5 though.

If Sacramento fans want to be mad at something, be mad at Samaki walkers 3 counting before halftime when it went off after the buzzer. They got a legit gripe about that but still blowing a 24 point lead with a chance to go up 3-1 with 2 of the next 3 in your building is inexcusable.

At the end of the day had Sacramento managed to have gone 17-30 from the free throw line in game 7 instead of 16-30, they wouldve won the title.

Its beating a dead horse, but they crapped the bed at home in game 7. Its not like one thing went wrong. Aside from bibby, those guys played scared in the biggest game of their life when it mattered most. Dudes were scared to take shots, missed free throws and couldn't get the job done when it mattered most.

If I recall they shot more free throws then the lakers in the entire series and this is taking into consideration there were times when Shaq was intentionally sent to the line.

The media and his fans will hype up kobe to no end. They want him to look better then he is. Its pretty pathetic. Kobe is a great player and champion. What more do you want?
