Normally I'd agree that this is a game we need to win regardless of our circumstances. But, the Celtics are also tanking, so for them, losses are also wins. SO really, IMO the loser in this game is the Winner.

Reminds me of that South Park episode where they deliberately try to lose baseball games. :lol

Magic Johnson on Jim Buss
“The biggest problem they’re going to have right now … you’ve got to get a guy like Jerry West to be the face of the team. ...

“You’ve got to have someone helping Jim. He’s got to quit trying to prove a point to everybody that he can do it on his own, get his ego out of it, and just say, ‘Let me get someone beside me to help achieve the goals I want.' "

Johnson acknowledged that getting West to return would be difficult, but added that having an empowered person in the general manager's role is critical. “You need to get someone like Jerry to be the face, so agents are comfortable, players are comfortable, knowing the Lakers are going for a championship….

“Look what Pat Riley did in Miami,” referring to the former Lakers coach who assembled the current team featuring LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

“If Pat Riley’s not there, you don’t get LeBron to buy in.”

Johnson said that current Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak is doing a good job. “Mitch is great,” he said, “but he doesn’t have the power.”

Johnson also added, “Everybody’s telling me free agents don’t want to sign [with the Lakers]…. They’re looking at the Lakers now as a team that’s dysfunctional; who’s their leader, who’s the guy?”

Magic Johnson on Jim Buss in Summer of 2012:

I love it. Jim, you look like your father; I’m proud of you. He’s definitely the guy now to win the NBA executive-of-the-year award.

This is also so good for Coach Mike Brown. He knows defense so well and Dwight is going to erase those shots coming down the lane, and Mike will know just how to use him. The Lakers’ tradition of great centers continues. It's just great.

All due respect to Magic Johnson's accomplishments as a player, but he honestly needs to keep his stupid opinions to himself.

In 30 years the Lakers have had 2. TWO Top 10 Picks. Farmar is the only 1st Round Pick made by the Lakers still on this team, and that is from 2006. We haven't gone into Free Agency with over $6mil in cap space since at least 2000.

This valley in the normal course of valleys & peaks was expected, and overdue.

What free agents is he talking about that don't want to sign in Los Angeles?

We have Jordan Farmar, Jodie Meeks, Wes Johnson, Xavier Henry, Nick Young, Jordan Hill & Chris Kaman. All role players who took less money to play in LA.

Or is he missing that the best 2 available players in 2014 Free Agency & 2015 Free Agency in Carmelo Anthony & Kevin Love have both floated the story that LA is on their short list?

Or is he missing that Luol Deng said LA would be a good option for him?

Unless he is still upset that 1 guy left the Lakers. Is he still talking about Dwight Howard leaving as the litmus test of Free Agents wanting to be here? I more than anyone wanted Dwight Howard to stay, but hindsight gave me the clear view of everything. He didn't want to be here, he didn't fit into the organization's values, and attitude toward winning. It was the best move for him to move on. Not because of Jim Buss, not because of Mitch Kupchak, not because of Kobe Bryant, but because he would never fit in as a Laker.

He's upset that Steve Nash didn't work out? So what.. It happens. We were trading for a guy who had injuries, but never missed games, an All-Star still performing at a Top 10 PG level, made a team of bums a team fighting for a playoff spot to fill a spot in which Ramon Sessions was the last Above Average PG we've had since Nick Van Exel over a decade prior. Nash got injured, maybe we get a backup with Nash? But we were already maxing out our Roster, and still going after Dwight, with other holes to fill.

We'd also never be in the position to go after Steve Nash had Jim Buss and Mitch's move for Chris Paul was upheld rather than having 27 other teams vote on a trade not involving them. We wouldn't have Magic giving his stupid ******g opinions had the unthinkable not happened now would we.

He wants to claim about Mike D'Antoni being a Jim Buss hire, when even Jeanie Buss said it was her father's decision. She never holds back from saying when she thinks Jim does wrong. Jerry Buss wanted the Magic "Showtime" back. That's what he wanted. Phil wanted to coach and Front Office Decisions, which Jerry did not want because he knew what it would lead to.

Magic really needs to go sit down.

Magic just wants to be "Jerry West" he just doesn't want to come out and say it.

:lol Magic's super obvious. I love him but he would not be a good Pat Riley/Jerry West.

Magic> buss

Yall crazy. Everything this guy touches turns to gold.

Gyms, movie theatres, Starbucks, the freken los Angeles dodgers are the talk of the town now.

I mean magic and jerry were super close, iono, I'm sure he's learned a few things along the way.

I'd take magic over the dumb **** we have right now.

i agree that magic has done well in his business ventures but not everything he touches turns to gold....especially that 5-11 record he had as coach of the lakers back in 1994. he had talent on that team ( divac, eddie jones, ceballos, nve, lynch, peeler...) sometimes things just dont mesh...

Magic would be a good part-owner, sure.

But that's not happening and that's not what he's talking about.

yeah he's gonna lead you to the promised land..

dudes are born on 3rd base and think they hit a triple....i have no problem with jim so far, things didnt pan out with DH and Nash. let us scrap that plan, save salary space and re-sign quality players ( and not just throw money at mediocre guys).

our fate can not be that of the lowly raiders...
