My greatest fear now is Ingram is Barnes 2.0After being able to closely watch HB these playoffs.... if we pay this guy anything above 12-13 mil a season
Keep in mind he is also the 4th or 5th option on most nights on the Warriors. But I agree, I hope we don't max him out.
But I think he has a little bit more ball skills and quickness to his game than Barnes.

He's a Restricted Free Agent. The cap space for him is irrelevant. We could use all $60mil then sign him.
And most teams can offer him is 4 year / $56mil.
And if they do and we match. The first 2 years are a little above $10mil total. The final 2 would be a bit over $45mil total

Appreciate the insight E, but I meant more so about his role with the team not the financials.
Especially if we do sign Derozan and Barnes or Batum, AND draft Ingram.
I'm struggling to see how Clarkson will really fit into any of the game plans for Luke at that point. I mean one that him and his camp would be pleased with.

Doesn't matter if he's pleased or not. He has no choice either way. Lakers absolutely control where he can play next year. And won't let him just leave.
Even if you sign DeRozan and Draft Ingram.
There's enough minutes by moving DeRozan up to the 3 at times.
And moving Clarkson down to PG at times.
That you would give Clarkson all of the minutes he would have gotten anyway. Just without the starter title.
Only thing you would have to do is trade Lou Williams... That wouldn't be too difficult.

My problem with Barnes is his lack of aggression, Ingram looks to be natural in the scorer role.

We don't have bird rights for him though do we? I thought the player had to play 3 years before we could use Bird rights on him? Also, don't we only have like 72 hours to match an offer that is made for Clarkson? At least I think that is what happened to the Rockets with Bosh and Parson. Mavs submitted an offer, the Rockets were holding out for Bosh's decision, then the time lapsed and Parsons went to the Mavs. I think you may be oversimplifying this a bit.

I don't think they have his bird rights though so I don't think they can go over the cap to sign him. Doesn't really matter though because his salary will only be like 5.5M due to the Arenas exception.

We have 60 mil in cap, why would they have to go over to sign him? And we wouldn't be able to match any offers without his rights.

His deal isn't 20 mil until 2019/2020. It's like 4.5 next year and 5.5 the year after.

If any team offers Clarkson a contract and he signs it would be doing the Lakers a huge favor. They will match it. I almost don't even expect him to get an offer because it would do nothing but help the Lakers.
